but you can't or is really hard to get clean lines when you start drawing unless you are tracing a previous layer

Redraw your OP picture without lifting the pen once.

>tracing a previous layer
I use the same layer as the initial sketch, maybe what helped me was because I forced myself to use that same layer I try to be as clean and simple as possible for the quicksketch and then erase and redraw over the gesture erasing each line and working my way from the inside out.

Think about where your lines are going before putting them down instead of drawing and then thinking.

my question kinda related, is tracing a good training exercise to achieve those muscle memory gains to give me a tighter grip? I don't want to rip-off shit and claim as my own, I just want make my wrist stop trembling like the one from a 80's parkinson patient

Chicken scratching is bad is a retarded meme I have only ever seen on /ic/ even the best artist chicken scratch that’s what the lineart layer and rendering is for cleaning up. Like in life, you don’t have to get it right the first try.

Well for me I would chicken scratch for the longest time untill i started drawing with charcoals/pastels and softer leads. You just have to make longer strokes using these so you'll naturally start to use your wrist and shoulder in sweeping motions.

I see a lot of good anime artists chicken scratch and make it look good
just do what you do and practice

you want to be loose, not tight. tight means sore hand after so long. i dont think tracing will achieve what youre thinking. get a large sheet of paper and draw lines end to end, curves, and circles.

its the same one. practice the section at the very beginning where he tells you to draw lines and circles for line confidence.

Think of the chicken scratch layer as a test layer, then make a new layer and overlay it over the chickenscratch image and make long clean flowing lines over it.

>> No.4104126

I found this to help me with better lines, look where you want the line to go not following it, just like when you're turning on a bicycle you'll have a much smoother and faster carve of the turn if you look where you want to end up

Chickenscratching just stops making any sense when you stop thinking in terms of 2d lines and contours and start your figure out or ovoids and bean shaped forms .

You should start seeing the 3d forms behind the lines.

Chicken scratching being wrong is a myth. what matters most is the final product, not how you achieve it.
Feeling out a drawing with shorter lines is fine, here's yoh yoshinari doing it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-0aucD8By0

sketching isn't chicken scratching you stupid faggot. Chicken scratching only happens when you're a beg who barely knows how to use a pencil to draw.

>the final product, not how you achieve it.

When you are scratching you will need to waste time to clean it up or to outline it again to accomplish any decent line.

Wasted time = less final products and slower practice.

You're shooting yourself in a foot in a long run.

Straight and clean lines come from confidence in your ability so I guess more practice and just "not" doing it

Don't hold your pencil like you're going to write, because a writing grip is meant for short lines (like in letters).
Bring the whole pencil under your hand and grasp it firmly. Draw with your elbow and shoulder, that'll give you the capacity to make longer lines.
