Can you clarify this line for me, as I'm not yet well-versed in art-speak? Does this mean I should just be drawing the same "type" of thing as the artist, or does this mean more specific subjects such as a mangaka's characters or Norman Rockwell's soup can, etc.?

Sargent is obviously insanely good, but the problem I'm having is that this is a Month long challenge to really push myself to my limits, and something like a simplified portrait really shouldn't take more than few days at peak performance, even if I spent all that time planning out shapes, and colors, and values, and every single brushstroke in advance it shouldn't take more than a week of planning and execution assuming I'm putting in the real hours, and then the rest of the time I'd just be sort of twiddling my thumbs, which would mean I wasn't really pushing myself to my limit, which I think is what the spirit of the challenge is about

Different anon here but you don't need to spend the entire time on one piece. I'm not really a big fan of hyper rendered super detailed stuff so don't see myself spending more than a week, week and a half on a piece, so my plan for the challenge is to do a few pieces and get better with each one hopefully, and submit the one I like the most.

Loomis death squad broke down my front door. The two men were in uniform – plainclothes, but I did not know why as they were about the same height and weight. One of them was the one with the big moustache.

As I stepped out of my room the police car arrived. They were quick, violent as my life seemed to be in danger.

They came with handcuffs. They dragged me out. They broke something in a little black box case on my desk. They ripped the tape on the tape player, and then proceeded to turn on the television. Then they beat me. I was beaten and choked a few times. My arms were broken. Then they took off my glasses, taking all of my vision with them. In total shock – I couldn't believe I'd been arrested on the spot – I told them, "No, don't do this." My eyes started swelling.

When I finally could speak, I told them, "I'm still your friend. Please don't take me to jail."

The police arrested me that evening.

I watched proko's vids and read through Anatomy for sculptors a long time ago but lately I feel really bad and rusty with my figures so I need to get back and study them again;;;
With regards to doing anatomy or weeb studies, it's good to do both. Usually I do weeb studies/stuff from imagination most of the time, until I get stuck with bad proportions, that's where I start doing figure/anatomy studies on body parts that I have trouble drawing

I usually observe artworks that I like and compare them to life studies/anatomy. My thought process goes like "How did artist Y stylized/simplified his work and how can I apply this to my refs" or "How did artist X made this artwork appealing and how can I emulate this on my work"

I've been messing with my drawing for the challenge for a few hours and I'm not satisfied with any of it. For the most part I would have been okay with calling it done yesterday, even though there were still things I wanted to improve on it. I can't submit to a challenge retroactively, though. Do you guys ever find yourselves in this situation? If so, what do you do to solve the problem? Or is this a problem only I have as a beginner?

Usually it's better to get a separate microphone and standalone headphones, it's easier to get a good one of each that way. Headsets are mostly for people sitting on a couch or something that don't have other options. I use a samson gomic since I was recommended it as a budget option, it's been more than serviceable for my purposes.

If you do need a headset, then I dunno.

Good morning dad.

Remember, not all cholesterol is bad, so eat some eggs in the morning for that extra protein. Most foods are only bad for you if you don't exercise, so be sure to do five minutes of push-ups, five minutes of pull-ups and five minutes of going back and forth on your living room if you can't go jogging or don't have the time, that'll make the blood flow and break some muscle fibers here and there. It's also advisable that you take to showers a day, a cold one after you exercise in the morning (be sure to wash your hair too, our locks don't like hot water all that much) so to get the blood flowing and a hot one before bed (don't wash your hair, not only will you go to sleep with a wet head [if you don't dry it] but the locks with get split ends and frizz) so you can get all the grease out of your skin, get the muscles relaxed and all. If you're just starting to exercise, make sure to massage the bigger muscles you've exercised that day so the lactic acid doesn't get stuck and you regret the next day. Always remember to stretch before you exercise and after long periods of drawing too, you don't want to injure your drawing arm after all.

Oh, almost forgot the most important of all: RUN/JOG OF YOUR FUCKING TOES! Don't absorb the impact with your heels, it'll be carried up your tibia and fuck your knees, at worst you'll fuck your back and have a lifetime of regret. By running on your toes the pivoting will make it so your calves absorb the impact, and who doesn't love some pretty calves? Better than a knees with stress fractures, I'll tell you that much.

Take care of your body and mind, that's not only good for you but for your art too. No brain can work without simple carbohydrates, and studying burns a fuck lot of energy. Our brain demands far more energy than that of other animals, don't let it go to waste.

It depends on the weather, in all honesty. I live in the equatorial region, so my skin gets rather oily rather fast. After I work-out the oils then will degenerate into carboxylic acid and leave me with that sweaty smell, so I tend to keep my body shaven and have a cold shower after I exercise. The cold shower won't get rid of most oils if your soap is not that strong, so the skin won't be ridden of its natural moisturizer. The hot shower, later in the day, is to get rid of the excess of oils in the skin, that's also when I use moisturizers to put what I got rid back in. It's better to have a bath instead of a shower, but we don't have those here, I have to make do with showers.

Also, it's not wasteful if you smell like ass. If your skin is drier and the weather doesn't help I can see how not using soap every other day would help, but if you sweat you'll stink a lot and your skin will get oilier. I'm looking from the perspective of people that work out, it may differ depending on your life style too.

I really want to draw something with like.... a creature in an environment. I draw a lot of animals and have been trying to draw more environmental stuff, and for DAIB I wanted to combine it all into a finished piece (or pieces if I can manage it). The only problem is my rendering is super weak, so I don't know really know how it'll go.

I usually time the creation of new threads so that the new thread bumps the old one onto page 9, which means we're currently 7 threads away from that point. At page 9 there's usually between a half-day to a full-day before the old thread is bumped off, which usually seem like enough time for people to jump threads to me. Was that your concern, or were you hoping make a new thread for other reasons?
