Where does /ic/ stand on the "are manga/anime characters white or asian?" debate? This girl looks white to me, but I feel like some would argue that she's like hapa or something. I know the really simplistic art styles follow mukokoseki (stateless, no overtly ethnic features) but on the very next level closer to realistic it can be hard to tell. What do you guys think?

If their name is KUROSAKI ICHIGO, or UZUMAKI NARUTO, but have blonde or orange hair, they’re clearly fucking Asian you moron.

If their name is EDWARD ELRICH, then they’re clearly NOT ASIAN.

Anime characters are an abstraction, clearly designed to look human, but with no particular race in mind. You’ll always project your own race to them, but when you’ve got people with naturally green, pink, or blue hair running around, or eye colors that are any color of rainbow, you can’t just pinpoint to blond hair and blue eyes and say they’re white. If the creator gives them a Japanese name, then they’re obviously Japanese, regardless of what features they might have. They’re cartoons, so they can look however they want them to look. Only westerners have this weird obsession with race and diversity, meanwhile Japs are happy to draw a black guy named Tachihara Bob cause it looks cool, and say he’s Japanese.

Most Anime character are 100% based on European features. It's also based on Disney stuff, so it makes even more sense. There are more realistic ones which look Asian like Vagabond.
