What is /ALT/?
If you're looking for a place to post your cartooning then you've found the right general. This is /ic/s 1st and only merged hub where both Eastern and Western stylization can coexist peacefully, hence the double title. However, by community demand and long history, this is favorably an Anime general.

Various exploration sketches of my own characters. I'm trying to get a stronger sense of who they are, or who they are to me... It's tricky, as I change as a person they do too, and I also draw things based on my mood.. if that makes sense.

I've considered many options for the default design, to balance femininity and stylization with something that is plausible for adventuring and camping. Hence the detached sleeves (which I may have tucked into a pair of iron gaunlets).

I'd like to keep it functional, but if there is room to make her outfit more feminine and appealing, I'd appreciate some options.

Practiced some Loomis from Proko's vids and decided to try doing my guy again with a head of my own. Admittedly I pretty much planned his head & hat only, but otherwise I think it's better than what I posted in the previous thread.

Thanks. You're gonna have a blast painting. Maybe try watercolor+white guache? It won't be expensive, look at James Gurney's minimalistic setup. In my opinion it'll give you feel for mixing colours, and your traditional lines are quite lively. You could try colouring your lines digitally or adjusting/painting over the markers with just a mouse, I tried cintiq and I seriously don't think playing around with a mouse is that much worse, both feel uncomfortable in different ways. But for me traditional is the king.

the shoulders to body connection shouldn't be clearly detached if you know what I mean. The bold lines make it seem like her arms are not even part of her own body, and just kinda plopped on there like some lego piece.

Here you go, I adjusted the eye level because one eye was to low (changed the pupil to be dark but that is just my personal preference). Otherwise just added more detail and stronger values to the different parts overall to try and enhance the form I have to say that if you are going with a rim light for each side then stick to it on the entire surface of the body not just the skirt and the suit and some other places.The gem on her ribbon is very reflective so make it reflect the color of the ribbon instead of a generic blue.

Do you ever feel like your stuff is too cartoony/exaggerated to be appealing? My idea for this was that I wanted to basically caricature Chun Li based on recent anatomy study of the quads and legs. In many ways it turned out how I imagined and I like the design. But I feel I can't trust my own taste these days. I can never tell if I just suck shit or I'm getting screwed by algorithms/bad cropping/whatever when I post my stuff. Is this something anybody would even like to see, is it appealing on some level? If you check my blogs, you could see I only started using social media one year and a few months ago. There's really nothing special in my case, I'm just drawing fanarts, short comics of famous IP and grow my fanbase based on those. If you're good enough, you will be recognized in no time. I was flooded with commission requests since then, I have 10k followers on Artstation and 13k on Twitter, my commisions are mainly come from them.

I also follow a lot of fellow artists of the same niche, I saw many of them struggle to gain exposure because their arts are not interesting/polish. But there're some of them that even grew x2, x3, x4... faster than me in the same time span. Solely because their arts are way better, way more interesting than mine, their quotes are a lot higher too ofc.

That comm info is 8 months ago. If you meant my art experience then 4 years (technically it's 5 years but there's 1 year hiatus that I didn't draw at all).

As I said before I only tried social media more than a year ago. Before that I hunted job on Freelance, Upwork, 99design, Fiverr and spamming email, desu at least for me, I think that's a wrong approach. These days I usually turn companies down when they contact me, I only accept if their project is really interesting. Working with individuals is a lot more comfortable, as they are so nice, no stress, no strict deadline, no endless revisions, full payment upfront...

I don't think you understand what a discount is, nigger. It doesn't involve you actually lowering your prices at any point. You pick some IPs you like in terms of aesthetic and characterdesign and so on and price your commissions for those IPs at the level you would like to be paid. Then you add 20% on top of that price for everything else to make the regular pricing look like a bargain.
