A year ago today, I decided to give up on grinding and I took the easy route by tracing 3D models and photos.
I even kept the date to record my progress.

Needless to say, I am not going to post my progress, it is too embarrassing.
Instead, I am going to tell you, that I should have just spent that year grinding. I would have grown so much more.
To warn newbies that are considering falling to the dark side. Don't do it. Not worth it. I wasted an entire year I'm not going to get back. Now I'm ready to walk the correct path, from square one.

>> No.4059020

It took you one entire year to realize that?

Is it true anon? Then we pretty much share the same artist aniversary! I started on August 10, 2018 but I did begin by grinding like a normal person.
After a few months I felt my progress was too slow and on december I tried tracing 3D models.. I even made a thread talking about how this was the future of art; and got promptly BTFO'd by the good artists of /ic/. Some anon challenged me to actually try to draw what I was seeing on my model and I tried to reference it only to meet failure. Then the anon actually used construction to create a nice cowboy and gave me good advice since I tried.

I wish you had seen that thread back then on December. 3D models are for artist who are already good or prodigies of some kind.

I don't understand why anyone would willingly use a 3d model, except if you're, maybe under a time constraint and must get it out as quickly as possible.
It just seem to take out all the fun in drawing, when you use 3d models in such way.

It's no different than using photographic reference, assuming the 3d model is good. Problem with most of these pose apps is that the models don't deform correctly and don't actually provide that useful information. But for accurate shadows and geometry it's very useful

And I repeat, I'm sure this is only useful for pros who already know anatomy and shading AND who also need to draw tons of different characters, like mangakas or comic artists.

A regular illustrator has no real need for it

did you deconstruct the references or just trace over the contours? that probably would have helped
not only that, but deconstructing and then moving your deconstructed shapes into a different pose is also helpful

I'm probably going to do something similar, just without the 3D models and stuff

I was watching a Jap steamer yesterday and he just drew the face and plopped a 3D model on top of it for the illustration and it came out just fine.

you are kinda retarded op, tracing need some fundies.

i started tracing 3d models around 2 months ago and now i have 11k followers on twitter.

there are some tricks you need to know, not just directly tracing everything you see.

anyway, now that i trace i can spot artists who do it, as i said, they are some ways to hide it, but i guess you didnt had the talent to make it.

Yeah, Gurney would literally make his own sculptures and maquettes by hand to use as reference for understanding perspective and lighting.

Keyword is reference, not something to trace over

Holy hell anon, you really found it, I'm impressed. You should still click on threads if the subject is related to what you do, never know what you'll find.

I'm still nowhere near the cowboy that anon drew though.

tracing is not really good, what you have to do is put he image on the side and copy by looking, never by actual trace, i mean put the image in low oppacity and copy on top. You gain nothing from that, and in the end you just will comeback to the model or reference to copy again.
The point of copy is that you learn from that and then you don't need to comeback. That's why a 3d model... if know how to correct pose it, is good is you dont have a photo reference, or you can't figure out of to build certain pose or whatever, is for that, for figure out, then by repeating some times you will not need it anymore.
