So KJG has an online course now. It's pretty expensive and imo not worth the full price for it's length. Did anyone buy it? Thoughts?

Way overpriced but I respect Kim's hustle. There's nothing Kim will teach you that you can't learn anywhere else. Just look at the course titles and study similar courses on NMA. There's no secret to how he draws, he is just extremely practiced in costumed figure drawing, anatomy and animal drawing all in dynamic perspectives.

The superani artists apparently use a more "analytical" approach, which is different from the usual "gesture" apptoach that NMA teaches. I'd love to get a better insight into the method, even if it truly isn't that different.

I wouldn't wanna learn from him because I don't see the appeal in his style, I don't care about drawing mad curvilinear perspective straight on with a brush pen, I think he's so detached in terms of method that you can't possibly learn from him, and fundamentally I don't care about KJG.

So far, I can only recommend this course if you are the the type of person who can learn by watching others. He just went through the drawing bodies in perspective section without saying anything concrete really. Also the quality of the clips is amateurish. He drew the guy on the upper right, and not once did the camera zoom in so you could watch it better. Some things I can apply to my brush drawings, but so far it’s a hard recommendation. Anyone who is actually decent at drawing knows that there isn't really any secret to how Kim draws. When you look at what any master teaches it all just comes down to understanding the fundamentals, every single time. This is what Kim's course covers as well but overpriced and perhaps not so in-depth. If you don't know what the fundamentals are that are behind drawing complex characters like Kim does then you should learn a lot from it however its not like you can't learn the same stuff elsewhere for cheaper.

Anons that bought the course, i suggest you to write a review/critique of it flaws, and send it to the course provider.

Some one mentioned that there is more courses coming from them with Karl Kopinski and Miss Jisu and if you hit them with bit of truth they may made new ones better, because you ae actual paying customer and you shit on them.

make it not butthurt but constructive criticizm, like:
-I barely felt actual "teaching" there was more of teacher drawing and some tips
-Sound quality is bad
-Camera is not flat to the paper, it makes it harder to digest
-Teacher was eating during drawing. It may have distracted him from sharing his thoughts because he was busy doing other thing

Stuff like that.

Just finished the stuff. Overall I’m disappointed. Here are the contents

>> No.4042947

I can tell you why Kim Jung Gi isn't a good teacher. He is drawing since childhood. He developed awareness of drawing, its fundamentals and everything that involves learning how to draw at a much later stage.

Contrary to popular beliefs the best teachers are not the ones who have lifelong experience, but the ones that started learning with a high amount of awareness regarding themselves and the topic they are learning. Kim Jung Gi doesn't know how he became good. That's why really great artists always tend to say to just draw when being asking for tips, the specifics got lost under thousands of drawings.

He also just doesn't have experience as a teacher. Someone can become a good teacher just by seeing what works and what doesn't for his students but Kim Jung Gi doesn't have that experience.

Are you suggesting that talent is real? Because it's not. KJG studied Loomis, Bridgman, Hamm and whatever else was available to him. He didn't become this good out of nowhere or without outside help. Anyone can learn how to draw like him given enough time.

I think he just doesn't give a fuck about teaching and cares more about drawing than talking about it. This course seems just like something he done because his agent told him to do because it would make money.

Funny how there is a proven talent distribution in every other field but magically not in drawing. Actually, the way he draws is quite remarkable - starting from any where on the canvas, realizing full compositions while working out anatomy, drapery and perspective etc. on the fly directly in ink with virtually no visible mistakes. There are many artist that can get to a similar result but not by working in the same manner.

Because it's a ponzi scheme. "For beginners" or amateur courses are for those who are too retarded and want to just wow their friends on Facebook. Most have no desire of getting into the industry of their choice.

You can post traditional too,

I've been drawing semi-seriously for like... 5 years, but there have been year long breaks not picking up the pen lol.

I'm studying music (singer) right now so drawing is just something I do when I have free time.

As in for advice... I know it's not popular advice, but the STUDYING methods of Riven Phoenix were very helpful to me in the beginning. His art is wonky and his anatomy is flawed, but I like the way he teaches to learn using formulas. (Check out Pencil4Anatomy on instagram, Onezukabin on youtube. They do similar things.)

Just pick better references to analyze using his methods. Also, KJG is right. The box (and basic forms) is important to understand. Pretty much what Peter Han teaches. My linework has always been decent, since I only drew with a ballpoint pen when I was a child (but I literally drew like a child up until I was like ... 17.18, when I started learning art very casually. I'm 24 now) I've never been good at drawing from references since I've always just memorized the forms and constructed.

To me, this course has been very helpful since it's literally my thought process (even the obstacles he said he has faced have/are been the same for me)

Tl;dr things that have helped me the most

- Riven Phoenix's study methods (not his drawing) (also Onezukabin)
- Understanding the basic forms (ModernDayJames, Peter Han, Kim Jung Gi, Krenz)

Things that have helped me the least:

- Gesture drawing and quick sketching (since I don't like drawing fast and loose. I lose "the zone")

Thanks for this advice, I hate to spam this image so often but here's the last digital study I conducted (the traditional drawings are Bargue plates). A lot of what you said really resonates with the way I think, namely your comment about "feeling the flow" and "gesture" being kind of silly advice that I just can't grasp. I've been studying for about 8 months and I don't see it as something that I'll ever employ since I don't like any artists who use it as a method (nor can I see myself understanding what it means). I drew (still draw) like a child now as well, and I'm 22, but I really hope to improve. I use all of the guys you mention except for Riven Phoenix, I'll look into him, it looks like our tastes/thought processes are very similar (yours and mine). Drawing from reference for me is very difficult, I have to employ methods that Bargue teaches, going very slowly, and even then it sometimes doesn't really work, I just don't have the "eye" for proportions, I feel like all of the decisions I make are the "right ones" and I think they are in some sense, I just don't have the dexterity to get them closer to what they should be, if that makes sense. With digital I'm a lot more comfortable since I can undo. I gave you >>4053098 a follow, looking forward to seeing your work.
