As a beginner should I even bother with putting my twitter handle on all of my works? I have like 4 followers and I'm wondering about how to go and get more people following my stuff. Porn isn't really a thing I like to do (I would if I were good enough for it get me paid)

Also is this pic bullshit? I usually post later into the night because of work and it seems if I went and posted at the most popular times my stuf would just get slid real quick in peoples feeds.

your lines are too dark, use more subtle lines and only use dark lines in shadows.

You should also look at proportions of things, you drew deltoids as large as his face, his biceps are tiny and large, and his pecs are also small. The chest area should be a lot bigger.

Try to use boxes first to get a good idea of the proportions and then erase and draw.

The first time gesture clicked for me was when I watched how this guy drew the gestures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StRohW0Og3w

I just copied how he did the lines and everything felt so natural. So I looked up on the Reilly method read 'Jack Faragasso - Mastering Drawing the Human Figure'. Ever since gesture made sense to me. The advantage of the Reilly method is that the gesture is at the same time constructions as well. I suggest trying out this method because it worked for me, but there's a possibility that it won't for you.

I think you should mostly just work on proportions and try to construct things with simple forms first before adding on the anatomy. Also when drawing muscles it's helpful to show how they overlap or wedge into one another.I think you're on the right track tho, just keep drawing and studying figures/anatomy and most of these problems will sort themselves out. Tried to illustrate my point in pic related, kind of rough and messy but I hope it's at least somewhat helpful.

I don't know your skill level but for a beginner it's good. You're not symbol drawing and actually attempting to draw what you see, which means you're already past the first hurdle most people get stuck on. Don't stop drawing from observation, but also try to complement it with construction. Read Loomis and try to figure out how to build a head and the features of the face from scratch, so that you gain a proper understanding of how the human head is constructed and works. It will make your art gains skyrocket and make drawing from observation even easier since you won't have to question why something looks a certain way.

However, please do yourself a favor and draw on blank paper.

>> No.4013105

>>4013098
There are a few things I can think of that may be causing it. One is that you're just more aware of flaws while practicing fundamentals. Two is that you're in an awkward spot in progress similar to an uncanny valley. Third is that whatever you liked about your art was fundamentally flawed and if you're no longer doing it your art looks worse to you. Four is that fundamentals hurt your passion towards art and have made you worse as a result.

>> No.4013133

>One is that you're just more aware of flaws while practicing fundamentals
I've been quite aware of my flaws for some time, hence the decision to practice fundamentals seriously
>Third is that whatever you liked about your art was fundamentally flawed and if you're no longer doing it your art looks worse to you
The thing is when I started with figure drawing I could produce flawed results but results nonetheless, the more I practice the worse it gets. My very first attempts are much better than what I'm producing now. When I took breaks and went for drawings I found myself unable to finish drawings and soon after unable to even finish rough sketches so the only thing i put out now is progressively worse results
>Four is that fundamentals hurt your passion towards art and have made you worse as a result.
I don't mind putting the time but the negative results are killing me. I feel like setting myself on fire.

shoulders are weird. The one on the left of the picture looks like it's falling off, so I'd recommend looking up where joints are in the body, and the shoulder on the right wasn't changed much even though you moved the arm to somewhere it isn't in the ref. It's important to remember that your shoulder moves in accordance to the arm's position.

About the body. the ref's back is arched, but more importantly, it's turning slightly to the camera. This is important because in your drawing the neck and base of the chin reflect this perspective, but the face is done at like a 1/2 view.

The arched back, and the stomach jutting out a bit that you don't have in your pic is why he looks a lot thinner btw. At least to me, idk the middle just kinda bothers me.

You have to learn the hips. There is the iliac crest that is one landmark, it creates a big V into the sacrum. The buttocks are not perfectly round like that, they are two (or three depending on the position) joined curves much like breasts.
Another landmark is the bone of the leg coming out of the hips, that bone is what actually creates a feminine figure. Don't draw the butt lines too thick and don't draw that line too far into the thigh, it makes the ass look fat.

the people look good. not perfect but pretty cool. the buildings look good. the car is terrible dude. you are copying something. dont do that. if youre gonna use a reference image, draw it in layers. do not draw the people and then draw the background around them. in fact whatever problems youre having with the torso is probably the same problem youre having with the car's windshield. because you used one as a frame of reference for the other.

How did you compose the page? If you look at values you get a confusing image. You should look at your composition in terms of shapes and values and unify/simplify as much as possible, and use stuff like framing or directional lines to create some sort of flow. I don't understand the crazy paneling either, even the most skilled manga artists are conservative with panels. Here you have overlapped paneling, characters jumping out of a panel, mini panels with extreme closeups, an open panel, that's too much. Can't comment on the choices you made with the scene because I'd have to know the story. but it's really confusing as it is.
You want to do skillful dynamic stuff and that's great, but I suggest you tone it down when it comes to composition and paneling, it's going to give you a bigger impact.

I think you are still bordering on drawing contour. Read the section of Hampton on gesture and take note of what he says gesture drawing is/isn't and how at it at its core is about representing the spine and how you should use your lines to guide the eye of the viewer like a game of pinball.
After that, watch him draw a few of them (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpejM-T9YG0)) and try to follow along/copy and you'll begin to notice a pattern as for how he "solves" certain body parts.

I can see the logic in that, thank you. The idea was to have all the "weight" falling down into the big knife. All the panels form a diagonal leading down to it trying to guide your eyes... once there you're supposed to see the big SWOOSH because now the knife is being swung.

The values are still not done though since it's just flat colors and blank ink. That's what the airbrush is for.

>you mean like, actual anime heads?
Yep, copy the things you want to be able to draw. Try to do it well and analyze your mistakes, but don't be a perfectionist about it. You're at the stage where almost any practice is good practice, as long as you're moving your pencil.

Draw a finished piece in a style that requires you to not chicken scratch. Keep working on that piece until you get it right.
There's little point in worrying about whether your sketches and exercises are chicken scratched or not because they're sketches, they're typically a stepping stone to a different final product and the quality if their presentation is fundamentally irrelevant.

You can't really improve that way. If you're not serious about improving then that's fine though.
Also obviously you can work on a piece over multiple sittings, you don't have to just work on a piece for one sitting and then abandon it. You can work on a piece for one hour one day and then another hour the next.

You need to understand perspective and construction and how to apply them, even if your only goal is to draw stylized cartoon characters. You are drawing shapes that contradict one another, without understanding how they are used to describe form and how they would work in perspective. Is he leaning forward or backward? As it is right now, I can't tell, and it makes me dizzy just by looking at it.

Assuming you're looking at someone head on and that you're not lying on the ground, you should be seeing the top of every every upright cylindrical shape below the waist.

Also, even if this is a character design reference sheet, no one really stands with their palms facing outward and their feet in a perfectly 180 degree Charlie Chaplin walk and it looks very unnatural.
