WHY SHOULD YOU AVOID NSFW :
> "But I love drawing peepee & milkies"
Well, you can do that by staying SFW, like all the great masters that precede you & are universally respected. How so? Draw fine arts. This is not pron, this is what you like to draw, and it will get you tons of respect from a technical standpoint & an artistic standpoint. Normies & art critiques All draw their jaws when they see Michelangelo's David, because it shows tremendous skill to sculpt a naked man so anatomically correct from a rock. Everyone who comes across it will say "Wow,this is high level art,no contest" /"I definitely am not that good"/"This is pure talent".
>Your image/reputation
All these smut artists are hiding themselves, creating alt accounts for a reason. This kind of art is seen as degenerate by A LOT of people. Problem : if you want a lot of fans, no, a lot potential clients, you can count ALL these people out of your range. You can't please everyone, sure, but your success highly depends on the amount of people who like your stuff & are ready to pay you for more.
Can't spread the word to your family (children, aunts, cousins),entourage, colleagues, etc with that.
It's only appropriate in a very specific & intimate context. (you can do it only for yourself though, but don't expect any money/critique/fan in return then)

>It's closing doors & limiting yourself
Tons of companies wouldn't like to be associated with people who do that & if your portfolio contains this Not Suitable For WORK art, they will close the window & look elsewhere without going back.
The subject matter is also very repetitive & only varies in the position/level of obscenity you can insert in your stuff. No interesting message that might make your audience think, it's just brainlet tier appealing to the most basic needs.
> You think it's the most lucrative path
If you want the big bucks, you're FAR from the best choice : art is the complete opposite of a "get rich quick" scheme, with a very competitive market,etc.. You might have heard of guys drawing furry diaper fetishes, but 1)do you want to make these disgusting things all day just for money & 2)do you really think it will automatically make you successful? Think again.
Discuss below if I missed any other argument, or if you disagree.

Question: the woman who did Ed, Edd, n'Eddy has done porn of them. All are underage.
I'd get that screencap that incidentally mentions American Dragon guy gets invited to furry conventions, but frankly I don't wanna put in the effort

Yeah, & zone got called to work on the upcoming Indivisible game, ok. That's some survivor bias though : how many got turned down because of their ugly past? Do you think that shadman, for instance, will ever work for serious, international, sfw stuff? Not saying it's impossible, but this is Very risky for companies, & most companies don't want to risk getting that much controversy, you know.

How close to NSFW is too close though? I imagine pinups are OK, but this would probably be too far on the NSFW side?

Your pic is 'not close to', it's NSFW.
It's inappropriate in all levels. Ask yourself : would my art be featured in a huge ad in New York or a museum, so everyone & their moms can watch it?

yep! i dont think they ever posted any of the nsfw content contained in the comic so that might be why there was no issue. i know the creator of steven universe drew ed edd and eddy + ratatouille porn and that the guy who did a lot of the pixel art on gravity falls produced a lot of nsfw work. they don't post that sort of thing anymore though i do not believe

Yes : definitely not as safe as, say, Marvel & DC comics but not as far as pron.
Image comics publishes that, but these are known for being controversial with their franchises (e.g. : TMNT started as something more violent than what it became when it aired on our TVs,they had to tone it down)

Not contradicting my stance. They were told to represent religious/ mythology/portrait stuff by the kings or the Church for a great compensation, sure,
They also had to portray acceptable, respectable things for them. (imagine yourself having to draw something for Louis XVI : if you spent months on your painting & the court found it obscene, you'd be out of work At Best. At worse your head would be rolling on the floor)

I’m in the animation industry and you are so misguided OP
No one gives any fucks. Drawing NSFW is practically par for the course for most artists, clients won’t give a shit. Give them a relevant portfolio of your SFW work for a project and if they like you you’re hired. Why would they care? They just want the job to get done.
Are you aware of how many famous artists and animators from Japan started out using pen names and selling smut doujin? People really don’t give a shit.
Stop listening to an imaginary boogeyman with no basis or foundation. Unless you’re shadman tier who is just being an edgy fuck I doubt you’ll get people wanting to not associate with you just because you drew some porn and I can’t think of any examples where this was ever a roadblock for someone, in fact I only know of cases where the opposite is true (Rebecca Sugar and Leslie Hung come to mind where they drew porn that’s widley available on the internet and it has never come back to harm their careers)

>> No.3994767

>>3994764
Also memes aside, just a reminder that arguably the most popular and most successful artist on the internet right now is sakimichan, who draws porn as part of her normal art package. She gets lots of industry job offers also. Your OP doesn’t make a lick of sense.
Again, stop listening to an imaginary boogeyman.

>> No.3994988

I legit don't know who's raiding this board with extremely poor posts. Let just's end this with this: If you're American, you're fucked. Japan doesn't give a shit about porn, Frenchies don't give a shit, and American actually doesn't, but if you draw something politically incorrect, you're dead.

So no, NSFW is not harmful.

>> No.3995035

>>3991443
I don't think normalfags are going to take the idea of drawing women doing a pose like that very comfortably.

"safe"-NSFWs are usually women drawn in a relaxed situation with varying degrees of nudity, the instant they show very clear suggestiveness to committing hard sweaty penis-in-vagina sex they are out.

>> No.3995037

>>3994764

The only reason Sakimi can get away with this is the fact she is a woman. If Sakimi were a man he might still make a bank but no serious business in the industry would hire him. Women can even draw nude underage boys and do just fine.
