An LN is like 99% text anyway.
But people caring more about the writing isn't new. Attack on Titan was really successful despite the manga having really mediocre art, as an example.

actually this guy is right. majority of anime's story telling are either a) convulted clusterfuck that makes no sense, or b) a literal YA novel. Despite the general consensus of YA literature having the worst writing, if you add pretty pictures with "unique" character designs then all you have to do is get a studio to make your animu. Though getting it animated requires luck mostly, if the author has connections, he will be praised for making the next big hit within a month.

I know, I know, there are excellent stories/plot that have been released recently out there that come from anime etc. but you have to acknowledge the sea of crap out there that don't get daily threads or are even recognized by more than 5 other western fans; and are pumped out every month or so.

There was reference to the concept in the OregaIru LN/anime. Where basically, most LNs released are trash and the everybody in the industry knows this, however they still sell because of external reasons like having a good artist working on them or only buying them for the author's afterwords. Looking up the monthly releases for LNs in Japan is really enlightening for how much trash gets put out.

ofcourse most of the LN industry its trash, thats what happens when you keep the entry level requirements low, every trash gets in
and ofcourse even trash sells when you keep the costs low

but thats what the industry desires, to give everybody a chance, and the good ones eventually rise to the top. You need patience and not expect every year to give something revolutionary. I believe you have too high standards by consuming medias which has stood the test of time, and expect current stuff to be the same. Don't worry, they had shit back then too, it just got buried.

>most LNs are trash becauae original ideas and good writing is rare
>publisher needs to find a way to market trash
>finds an illustrator to produce alluring art so brainlets will buy the trash LNs regardless of its actual contents

Just because there might be some good LNs released every 5-10 years doesn't make my statement of "people only buy LNs for the art" any less valid becuae 99% of all LNs are garbage.

The level of quality of the average light novel is actually much lower than any other medium I've ever seen. I personally enjoy manga and anime people might call trash but most, like 99%, of LNs are god awful. They're all poorly written, cliched and worst of all boring. Their plots aren't even qualified for what is normally bad, just boring.

just because the content is shit and the package is good, that doesnt mean the reason ppl buy the shit is because of the package, it just mean the shit gets noticed easier on the shelf, but when most of the stuff has good package it evens out
at the end of the day, ppl buy shitty LN is because
1. they are bored and want something to do
2. they are cheap
>>3987816
I blame the low quality on the amount of time it requires to write something. The more of something you do the better you get, but when doing something takes a lot of time, it will take a lot of time to get good.

Guess a good way of going about it if are a beginner writer, is to write short stories. Quantity over quality, because your quality is shit at that level no matter what you do.

>projection

All the tropes done in TTGL were done by a hundred different shows ten times over because it's a celebration of the animes of old, it's funny that you see them as actual build up when everyone who has been watching anime (particularly mechas) for at least 10 years prior to TTGL can tell what will happen next without fail.

Which is why they started to hire ex or current porn artists to do the illustration to attract even more potential customers that normally doesn't consume LNs.

>1. they are bored and want something to do
Because Japan is such an entertainment powerhouse, there's so many other ways to spend your time. Not only that, most Japanese people don't read too many books.
https://www.sankei.com/premium/news/141011/prm1410110018-n1.html
This can be said for the whole world but it's a very true fact. If the average japanese person is bored, they'll spend time doing something else, besides reading. So why is it that such a niche medium does so well and have so many new debut authors on a monthly basis?
>2. they are cheap
Yes, which is why people mainly buy it for the artwork. Think of it this way, bad LNs continue to be bought because of their artwork alone, good LNs are purchased for their story. It just so happens that the medium, which is ironically mostly text, has an overwhelming amount of bad in it compared to other mediums. So why does this niche industry do so well despite having so much bad in it? People definitely aren't buying for the story since a single manga volume goes for the same price if not cheaper. Most people don't read that much so why take so many chances on all these new authors? It only makes sense that most LNs are bought solely for their artwork alone.

Did you even click the link? I never said they don't read.
>most Japanese people don't read TOO MANY books.
The majority may read 1 or 2 books but looking at things logically, why are so many light novels being bought yet not read? Anything after this might be conjecture on both our parts but I'm only laying down facts. You could say they buy it to read it later but there's no proof for that. I gave my point and there's, in my opinion, more validity in it but you could technically put it under conjecture as well. The fact is these things are bought but not read. Be calmer and attack the arguments not the person.
