I think you picked one of CSR's poorer examples just to nitpick the artist.

Frankly, he/she renders pleasing soft bodies with a dynamism not constrained to reality (muh style), and I find the painting style refreshing in a sea of Sakimichan wannabes. It's rough, but CSR has a good sense of lighting and color change to make it visually interesting beyond the subject matter.

Not him but he's right: the guy straight up can not draw. Every one of his drawings is like that, including that one. Really fucked anatomy and perspective (NOT stylized) upon closer inspection but with sort of passable rendering.

This results in good-looking thumbnails, but once you enlarge them, it's ohgodwhy.jpg. This might partially be responsible for his success. You can clearly make out giant rendered tits in the sea of madness that is social media, and that's where the appraisal ends for most non-artists. They don't see beyond the passable rendering and giant T&A, they're on board. That and his volume. The man is a goddamn porn machine.

If you don't care about the drawing quality, then it's relatively easy to slap some color onto a piece and upload on a regular schedule, especially once you find a reliable rendering method. This allows many porn artists to have a high output. But you won't improve this way, if you never slow down to observe. That's fine if that's what you want. I'm not hating on the guy, I think it's great he's making bank and it still takes an iron commitment to produce that sheer volume. But we don't need to defend his drawings.

I'm not posting my work after criticizing another artist, especially an e-famous one, I'm not looking for that kind of attention. Just know that I can draw better than fucking CSR. Fuck sake, plenty of people in /alt/, /dad/ and /draw/ can.

Get better art heroes. We're all at different skill levels here but that doesn't mean even a /beg/ has to muck around in feces. Aim high even if you don't think you'll reach it.

I mean you can see my evidence of my point in CSR's very own work. Despite putting out hundreds of finished pieces over a few years his stagnation is as clear as day. Pure volume does not net you gains if you keep repeating the same mistakes. This is true in any area of self improvement, there's working smart and working hard (or merely working a lot in CSR's case). I acknowledged that as an "illustrator" (businessperson), CSR is winning. But business is not art, and his art blows.

Here's an artist who puts out similar subject matter at a good rate (not as absurdly high as CSR), in a similar style, except he can actually draw and render. Does he make as much money? Probably not. But I made it clear I wasn't talking about what qualities make an artist more employable.

Oh yeah. I think he improved a ton. I also think he can be hit and miss, but that's something that happens often when you focus on efficiency most of all.
I think he doesn't improve at a faster rate mostly because he draws everything from memory. Artists that use a lot of references or inspiration from other artists have better gains.

He's shown some improvements in rendering/lighting. His early stuff was very smeary. It's hard for me to say there's genuine gains in the drawing aspect, which I think is the most important. Here's one of his earliest works from the boorus, from about 2 years ago. It's a lot of the same form mistakes. I definitely get the sense that he's doing it all from imagination, and that's kind of my point.

Making anything really good takes time and effort. Taking the time to understand and properly use references may be part of that. The best artists almost invariably put in more time per drawing. Not to say every piece must take agonizingly long but just as a general rule.

So maybe you can improve in small ways just through volume, but I think my original statement more or less holds up. If you really want to get good, it might be at odds with with fast money. But I'm not even saying it's bad to want money and efficiency. Just know what your goal is and how to best reach it.

Maybe it could give you a short term boost, but keeping up the facade is going to turn into a job in of itself. It's exhausting to pretend to be someone else and keep your character somewhat consistent. You're always going to be mistake away from revealing yourself unless you run a very tight ship. On top of that you're going to get the worst of being a woman online not just the benefits, think of all the thirsty neckbeards that are going to try to contact you. You can't always just not respond either because some of them will be potential customers. Messy style is whats atractive and his personal consistent stylistic choices. In general alot of art looks way better in sketching/rough phase than in finished. In fact thats the case with alot anime art in my opinion. Look at fumio, hes very messy, sometimes looks halfway terrible, but still has a loyal following, or namaniku atk is quite rough, but looks fantastic cause he has great fundamentals and his own style. Did you read anything I said at all? He's popular, yes, but it does not follow that because he's popular, he's "extremely skilled" or that his flaws are minor.
What is "solid" about his backgrounds? Why do several of you keep calling his backgrounds "solid"? Who the fuck pays attention to the background in porn? It's almost like you have so few good things to say about this guy's work that you go to his backgrounds. Which almost always are a blue sky with some clouds, maybe some grass or rocks, very loosely done. Elementary shit.

His colors are basic hue shifting. Get the values in order, and you can just move some sliders around till something looks good. Why are you impressed by this shit?

His form is not solid because, again, his anatomy is garbage and is the worst thing about his art. This is not how a woman with her arms raised looks like. It's CSR's fucked up idea of what a woman with her arms raised looks like. It's not minor, it's gross and unsexy. Everything is way too defined in the armpit area and the forms of the torso are not well defined. All he had to do was look up a reference, maybe practice the pose a few times and it would be vastly better, but that would take time away from the only thing he kinda sorta does acceptably, the rendering.

I care a lot about the drawing and the design of a piece. Much more than the rendering, colors, etc. It's the first thing I ever notice in any artist's work and is largely what determines whether or not I like that artist. And I really believe CSR doesn't prioritize drawing and design. Just because it's porn doesn't mean you have to be lazy about those things. But often those are the hardest and most time consuming factors, and people who just wanna nut might not care about them. So it may be profitable (financially) to neglect the stuff that really matters from an art standpoint. That's all I was saying.
