You see, that's the issue with picking OP images. People assume picking an image is what "represents" the general. The image must "be among the best" and featured to portray the general skill of the users.

The problem with this is only a few people are within the rotation of OP. It's either that or picking an image that GOES GREAT WITH TYPOGRAPHY ^____^ and looks good in the catalog by choice of colors (rather than technical skill).

Original dog here. When shrineycat was taking a break I made a point to list featured dads as far as I thought reasonable so I wouldn't repeat dads too much. I don't think cat cared much about repeating, specially when someone filled for him for a while... so that and a bit of confirmation bias might contribute to the impression that only a few dads get the spotlight. Really large file sizes cause submissions to create duplicates. I'm not tsflipp but I noticed that it happened to them today, and it happens to me pretty often.

Not exactly. Pixel art is significantly more about simplification and a strong grasp of pallette Harmony and colour theory. You can check pixeljoint for some examples of what pixel art is. It's a bit like mosaic art but with individual pixels. Instead of brushstrokes you have to manually create your textures.

Banana hasn't gotten to that point yet, worst so far has been delays on updates but as >>3977113 said anything above the submit and streak is fluff, and bugs that are super critical usually get hotfixed within the day, just a few days ago the site was down a few hours before the deadline, knocking out a handful of 23:30ers, but they got a free pass for the day iirc.
He does appear to suffer from unpredictable bouts of depression, and has once threatened to literally commit suicide on a dice roll on his birthday, so his mental stability is questionable, I hope he sorts his shit out on that end and gets some irl help, better yet, maybe it's all just an elaborate discord joke and there's genuinely nothing to worry about, which would be great, but you can't tell on the internet with these things.

Hey dads! Posted a kinda niche challenge on the site. If anyone new to the medium wants guides or tutorials or advice on how pixel art works you can hit me up on discord or just post on an old submission of mine (or here) and I'll try to help out. Pixel art is really, really fun to get into and has decent small job prospects so I hope you guys will give it a try. It's really great for trying out simple animations and to get a better grasp of colour theory as well!


For those of you who have never done pixel art before, if you want your pixel submissions to be bigger you can change your final work by selecting "Nearest neighbour" in photoshop and upping the dimensions of the file. Be careful to keep the ratio the same! For example if you have a piece of pixel art that was initially 90 pixels don't suddenly make it 345. Try to use an x2, x3 etc formula to preserve the original pixel dimensions.

Also, never save in JPEG! Only png and gif for no information loss.

if you're submitting daily, literally just submit whatever piece you were working on that day if you spent at least thirty minutes on it
then on the next day, if you spent at least another thirty minutes on it, submit the updated piece as a new submission
you don't need to delete old submissions

if you're submitting every other day, do the same thing except you cycle every two days

Nah, you can't edit it when the day reaches 00:00 GMT (check the home page for the exact time). You're next submission should depend on your frequency. I got confused on my first week here too
