How many local(4chan-wide) drawfags actually browse /ic/?
I've seen plenty of good artists on other boards, namely in /a/ and /v/ drawthreads. But I barely see any artists here.
I assume they either don't want to post their work here or they don't browse /ic/ at all. Which is understandable but I'm still curious.

No lie this board has been the best thing ever for me. This is the only board I come to on this site and have only been here for about 8 months. Because of the stuff that I’ve pulled from this board alone, my stuff has gotten much better. Before I started coming here I was doing garbage line doodles. Not saying I’m king shit in any way but I do acknowledge that this board plays a huge factor on my motivation and learning. If you can filter through the garbage you can find a lot of great advice here.

I used to draw on /b/ it used to be a lot of fun. Left because there's a lot of drama there and all the requests are mostly porn related and I'm not into it. Plus I felt it was making me stagnate in my drawing.

I drawfag for certain manga threads on /a/ sometimes. It's nice to make art I know people will be happy to see, and doing requests for a series I'm actually interested is a lot more motivating than being shat on in /ic/. I never post my drawfag stuff to /ic/ because it's not my best work and it gets the job done, which is all that really matters.
I imagine more drawfags would go on /ic/ if this weren't such a relentlessly negative and crabby place. Harsh criticism can be useful sometimes, but the variety you find on /ic/ rarely is.

I posted on /vg/ for a while but in general I think 4chan boards are garbage heavy. Including this one. But this is the only place I have to discuss art with artists.
I think it's possible that the type of artist that posts to /a/ or /v/ is more likely to join an /a/ or /v/ discord and discuss art there instead.

For the few active drawfags who browse /ic/, there's really no upside to mixing these two worlds.

I'd say mixing those two worlds is beneficial. Bruising the ego helps from keeping your head in the clouds while being in other circlejerk drawthreads in other boards helps keep from driving yourself into the ground.

I didn't get better as an artist until I understood that I needed both to keep my ass in check.

Frankly, the way /ic/ views itself as purveyors of tough love, in light of the actual amount of useful critique it doles out, is pretty egotistical. It's not about people being afraid to come here, it's about people not having much respect for /ic/ as a whole has to say.

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm pretty sure most drawfags browse /ic/ for the free resources, but never post in here either because of (1) the harsh "criticisms" they might receive or (2) /ic/ won't suck them off like the drawthreads will. I drawfagged on /co/ way back, lately every single request is straight up fetish stuff fit for /aco/, see>>3955797 and I hate all the characters from current shows.
I made a few characters on /tg/ but most of them are either boring fantasy merc_wips or they're insanely overdesigned where every single design element needs to follow a specific reference, and the design as a whole is a frankenstein monster of things the anon thinks are cool. I usually draw in the WWD (weekend waifu draw) thread on /a/ and browse here a lot. It's nice seeing artists who post over there also post here when I can. I'd like to get my art critiqued more since it doesn't happen too often on draw threads for me even though I started drawing in threads to improve more but /ic/ still intimidates me a bit to have try posting it here yet.

If anyone wants to bust their posting cherry I promise to give a legit non harsh crits. Y’all should be posting your work because it’s clear some of you want to deep down and clearly have some kind of passion for drawing. It’s like a shot, the hard parts just the build up it. Once it’s over, the worst parts over because you can only post your 1st once. Plus a few of you seem to have already decided that your art sucks so you don’t post. But how can you really know if it does if you don’t post. How you going to get better?

I feel this this topic and time would be good for some of you to post. There are some good vibes with what seems to be some good people.

Thing I’ve seen here is how you go about posting. If you post something not good but you have made it clear you are beg and you’ve made it clear you want to get better and have goals, I’ve noticed people will play nicer.

If people post something not good and just ask for criticism with no background or thoughts of future development, I just assume they are trolling or not ready to be posting.

Also with people who post bad stuff and say it’s good...Youre going to get rosted

I think you should work on faces and colors. It's a little hard to judge because half the face is covered, but I think her face is overly long, she has a lot of forehead and chin.
I think your rendering is alright but you could bear to be more adventurous with the colors. The shading colors all look very "safe," and kind of uninteresting. I think you should put more consideration into the mood and environment when considering colors. Is it supposed to feel really scandalous? Maybe you could have some harsher, more dramatic shadows. Is it supposed to be in some sort of alley? Maybe you could use a cooler, more desaturated palette to give it a grungy look. Is it supposed to feel hot and erotic? You could use a warmer palette that really brings out the reds, yellows, and oranges.

Thanks anons. I definitely should have secured a reference for the pose (comm'er specified) since the legs are weird. After finishing I felt that the calf on the left was too small which contributed to the weirdness.
I agree about the face. I somewhat recently started proportioning my faces differently since I'm terrified of being taken as drawing loli/shota, hence the length. Still working on making them look appealing.
When it comes to the lighting, she was supposed to have taken a bad fall in battle (broad daylight). All of the references I got for the character were sfw so I had no idea how much to push the eroticism. I think going towards warmer colors would be a good idea in the future, I usually drift towards purple tones that kind of feel sterile. Harsh shadows scare me off too. More things to think about in the future.

I'm from /ic/ originally, but I take requests on /tg/ sometimes. Did a paintover to try and work through what I think you could fo to improve the coloring. Only did the twink because he's cute and I like twinks. I'm still learning myself, so sorry if it looks bad.
I went in with the assumption that this image was supposed to be sexually provacative, since you mentioned making BL in the character thread. If that's not the case, then you can disregard a lot of what I'm about to say.
I think the square texture brush is holding you back, it makes your edges a lot rougher and less natural looking, which means that the flesh here doesn't really have the appearance of real, soft and supple flesh. Some of the shading on the green haired guy especially looks pretty rough, which takes away from the lewd appeal. I think it might help you to try using a round brush for your shading, and to pay special attention to your edges.
I think you also use too limited a range of hues in your skin, and that combined with the lack of saturation makes it look less lively. Adding more saturation to your skin shading to give the impression as if there's blood underneath can give make it look more lively and inviting. I'd recommend looking at some of ModeSeven's mini guides on the stuff.
Other than that I think you should work on hands, because your's aren't quite stylized or realistic, and I get the impression you struggle with them. I think the blocky style doesn't really suit these designs when the characters have softer looking faces.
Also the dicks need more love. If you're drawing BL you need to give the dicks some love, that's the most important element right there. Please don't just draw them as limp blobs, give them more attention and detail. Your audience is gonna be here to see your boys butt fucking each other, so please put extra care and attention into their equipment. It's the only ethical thing to do.

Absolutely. Recently I felt I was decent enough to share my work in /vg/ threads and anons seemed happy about it, and gave me decent critique. Just say that you're taking requests and they'll flood you with prompts.
