3952053 No.3952053 [Reply] [Original]

I often see artists offering a PSD file of the original art with layers as a reward on patreon.
Why would people want it if they already get the art in the original resolution in a loseless format?
Can you please name a few applications for this?

The reason I'm asking is because when I thought about what would people actually want as patreon rewards I remembered this. My layers are usually very convoluted and I'm not naming them. I'm not sure why anyone, especially somebody who doesn't do art, would want to see them. I'm sure not every artist is like this. But I think a timelapse of the process would be far more useful than a PSD file.

As an "artist" it could be useful for deducting work flow and techniques especially in conjunction with a process video. If you're going to have .PSD for rewards I believe you should make your layers less convoluted and easier to follow. I.e group by process steps keep effect layers separate and name them. As for why a non artist would want them I don't understand myself. Maybe personal edits or some shit idk.

Do you have any proof that's the case? Obviously those who want tutorials and psds are going to be aspiring artists themselves

anon bro, you should know your audience. I saw many patrons actually saying that they have no need for a psd, brush or process vid whatsoever, since that's not what they are there for. They support you for the stuff you do and the nice picture they are getting, in fact some just request a bigger high resolution picture if possible.

Those who are interested in process and stuff are artists themselves obv, thus a great minority since low-key poor artists generally don't spend money on other artists.

It kind of feels like they're doing it just to have something for a slightly more expensive patreon reward.
But maybe it's nice for some to get a little behind the scenes feeling.

I also dont get that at all.
My guess is that artist do that either because its a easy and effortless reward to include, and some people are just weird and like messing around by editing the drawing themselves.
Actually been wondering what reward to offer on my Patreon and the only thing that I actually matters are arts in their best quality and characters polls so people choose what you draw. If I was supporting a artists those were the only rewards I would care about.

I would guess it just curiosity and wanting to know more about the thing you like and paid for. It's like people watching the behind the scenes and making of documentaries about movies they like. Those people will never make a movie themselves but still get enjoyment out of seeing how it's done.

The answer to this should be obvious. You can deduct some of their process from the PSD and maybe steal some setting and shit.

I copied a bunch of Lack's fantastic gradient maps from a single PSD of his.
