I drew this yesterday and I realized that every one of my drawings has this same non-expression. It's like she's too cool to show any sort of happiness or sadness. And when i went through my instagram feed to see all the other artists that draw girls like this, they are all the same. it's like modeling head shots. what resources would you recommend for me and us all to get away from this neutral eyes half open, RBF? I want to draw a cute girl laughing or yelling angrily or confused. (sorry for the weird cropping, i used an app to make it a square for instagram.)

to learn to do something you do the thing, just draw expressions.

-if you have trouble because of your style then try going for a more simple style that lets you draw faces more quickly, and then fill pages with them, set up a timer with like 20 seconds per face and that won't give you time to detail, focus on making expressions.

-here is a tool for drawing expressions but i personally don't like it.
https://line-of-action.com/practice-tools/face-expression-practice

-there is also the 25 expressions challenge, sit in front of a mirror and mimic the expressions and then draw your face if you are having trouble.

there you go 3 things you can do, now go draw and leave this board.

Uldis Zarins - Anatomy of Facial Expression is a nice book and there was some kind of group on Sketchfab with a shitton of scanned faces with different expressions that could be used as references.

I'm OP and I agree. I understand that there are a lot of problems with my sketch, and I already put it through the beg thread and got some feedback. But at this point, I'm asking about something specific not addressed in beg, and rather than be a coward like so many people here and post someone else's work, I decided to post my own because it's (pic related.)

For examples of the proportion problems, the right eye is WAY smaller than the left. The ear is a little too low, the jaw is too square. The nose is too small, although it's kind of anime-ish so big eyes and a small nose are kind of the point. and her back, shoulders and neck are a twisted contorted mess.

If you want to talk about drawing expressive emotions, that'd be helpful.

Eyes too big and also mismatched size. Eyes not set in skull correctly. Mouth angle slightly off and looks pasted on. Her shoulders look like a dude's.

I have a similar problem, althoughI can do anger a bit. Learn the facial muscles and how they work/interact, and study faces displaying strong emotion.

Very cool style anon. I really like it.
