Draw humans using basic shapes as a skeleton first in order to get proportions and placing right, then build the human around it like you're wrapping skin around the cubes and balls.

>> No.3945121

Yes. The first step to learning how to draw is to decouple what you think you see and what you actually see and actually figure out how to draw what is in front of you. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it should still resemble what you're referencing.

Yeah nah. The point of the lesson is to show you that your brain is an asshole and will sabotage your eyes, and that you need to learn to let your eyes override your brain. As long as you can mechanically and intellectually understand and demonstrate that then you have already learned the lesson and can move forward

All loomis is telling you is how to construct your shapes you fucking retard. Any 3D image is going to have fundamental 3D shapes to it. Loomis isn't trying to get you to copy his work as he explains so many times. He wants you to gt used to the idea of constructing your figures first.

>> No.3945208

>>3945198
Basically. The skill he's trying to teach you is how to break down what you see into simpler shapes and build them back up - that's what makes drawing very complex figures like humans much more attainable.

Ok can i get some tips from loomisians on /ic/?

This is a typical manga head I stole from a book. I tried to draw a loomis head over it but it doesn't quite match. I don't know if my perspective is too off or I just need to memorize the difference between anime atanomy and loomis head.

If you're learning construction always practice the front view first even though front view isn't attractive to draw. That way you can say where you curving lines are supposed to go around the face. The idea is to start with flat planes before advancing to more three dimensional looks. In your example none of the curving lines even touch important regions of the face that serve as guidelines like the eyes.

loomis tech is a pretty dank means to an end. just do it enough and eventually you wont even need to use it. you've probably seen this but I always come back to this video just to see it executed well.

This is just from one beginner to another, but I'd use a slightly larger circle as base and use the upper "double eyelid" as the center line. Keep in mind that the same amount of the base circle you "shave off" on the side that you divide with the ellipse you also shave off on the other side facing away from you.
The distance between the top of the eyes to the tip of the nose is generally the same as from the tip of the nose to the chin. Eyes vary in size but they generally expand downward, i.e. you never really have eyes that go above the center line. Eyebrows also vary a lot and can exist practically anywhere on the forehead.

Really though, anime varies so much in style that you simply have to figure out your own proportions of your base through practice.
