When Numyumy started she was charging like $300+ to paint over people's photos, obviously her customers didn't know she was straight up painting over the photo reference but you could tell because without "reference" her art was so bad in comparison. So yeah, there are people who would paid a lot for having a more painterly version of their photos and some of them are so dumb that you can just take their photos, apply a filter over it and charge a lot

I think this shows that having a very outgoing and social presence on social media is a lot more important than actual skill most of the time, just like in real life. You will get more popular if you're actively reaching out to people and marketing your art compared to just uploading art on your social media and barely talking to anyone.

Adding to this, I've seen a few artists on Instagram/DeviantArt/twitter who I felt deserved a lot more popularity, especially some /ic/ artists. But because they did nothing to actively promote their art, they remained relatively obscure. I admire artists who still work hard no matter how many likes they get on their art but I would still like to see these artists "make it".
