It's the end of your life and you are testifying to all creation and time.
In all your time spent on your art skills, what have you personally discovered?

In my case, the greatest lesson is to simply keep making new things constantly.
Talent is the combination of consistency+perceverance+and a bit of copying from life/other works.
Art isn't everything to study about, but should never be put down.

One of the most important things is that you'll only get frustrated if you try to do something beyond your knowledge of the fundamentals. There are the fundamentals for visual arts and then there are fundamentals for each style.

Stuff is done in a certain way for a certain reason, not out of pure arbitrary intention to do differently. If you look at something and you can't tell why exactly the colors are the way they are or the lines are the way they are, you don't know enough yet.

All artists are cunts.

Another one is that keeping it simple is important. Nobody cares about how much effort you put into something if it's weak. If it was all about effort or how hard was it to make, people would draw with their anuses. Sometimes something you did in minutes is your best bet.

I don’t remember who said it, but it goes “Amateurs wait for inspiration, professionals show up to work.”

Had a professor drill into our heads: “You can’t paint it if you can’t draw it.”

As for personal discoveries, I can’t prove it yet, but I think there’s a definite link between the Arab likka and Japanese yatate technologies.

That becoming an artist is like learning a classical instrument. An aspiring pianist practices for hours each day with specific exercises while also learning theory until they can play professionally. If you want to be a professional artist you must do the same.

I've discovered that I don't know anything.

I've been learning this the hard way recently. I was really unsatisfied with my work lately so I thought I'd try something really simple, surprise surprise it ended up looking way better. I realized that my fundamentals are really lacking in a few areas and now I know what to work on before I try tackling that piece again.

the more you worry about it being perfect, the worse it will be.
