Both but size is more important. Anything over 1080 is serviceable but dpi does make a huge difference in working area. More important is screen quality, I'm not impressed by a lot of panels regardless of resolution.

You don't need to "figure out the interface". Just open a new canvas and pick up the brush, look up for things when the need arises.
