It never worked. Right now I'm working on becoming a better artist and doing more challenging things but in all honesty I don't think it will help in the slightest. I don't want to draw fanart or smut or go political since I don't care, and I don't have a style of drawing that is appealing/popular enough that I'd be able to become a drawing guru if I eventually got to a professional level. Realistically there's no way I'll ever be able to get a following, and I'm not good enough to get hired as a freelance. There's no way even my best work can compete with the shit on artstation. So I'm fucking useless.

I was convinced it was about presentation, so I literally copied the presentation from other artists. It did nothing. I love my subject matter and I believe in it, but it's probably the subject matter along with the fact that my work doesn't look good enough in general.

Trust me there's no problem when I'm drawing. I love drawing and it's an escapism thing for me, I like my art and my subject matter, I think it looks cool and unique, but it isn't even that weird. I have a sense of humor and I'm not socially retarded and I interact with people just fine.
This negative shit happens when I sit down and think about my (not)career. Then I just go to sleep and keep going the next day. I'm not even clinically depressed anymore.
I just want to keep making portfolio stuff, when I'm in low spirits I stop uploading real content and just dump pointless drawings for the sake of feeling like I'm doing something. What is your subject matter? Post your work, &etc. I'm curious. It's good that you enjoy it, at least, just keep at it. You may not be where you want to be yet, but just find a good pace to work at. It doesn't have to be a career for you, though I can understand and empathize with feeling so strongly about it, and taking it so seriously. But stressing over it, or becoming blue about it, is an attitude that should be reworked, as an artist must see their work not negatively "this looks so terrible", "it's bad" but "I can improve on this", "if I use this as a sketch I can draw over it and bring this closer to my vision." Do you have a job, or are you in college? A NEET? There are more paths in life than just one, and sometimes you have to take a detour through an unexpected path only to find you've arrived at your original intended destination. Gotta enjoy that journey.
