i did't start with tuts, i did have a book that had some tuts on modelling and sculpting, usually using zsphere but i dont remember shit about that i dont really bother with it. that was like 2014, and i dropped zbrush since then. I recently got back to 3d with 3ds max, maya,blender fushion and some others and alot of the concepts i now finally understand. I started using zbrush just a little while ago like maybe 2 weeks ago or less. A lot of the shit is the same from all the stuff i learned in other programs, especially subdivision modelling. as for sculpting its a bit more complicated and id advice against it for noobies. The reason is that theres basically 3 ways to sculpt. ill explain in the next post.

the most common way to sculpt is with a static mesh usually a low poly cage(base mesh before subdivision) in subdivision modelling because the low poly cage uses its vertices as control points for the subdivided mesh. sculpting tools move around the vertices(thats something you need to remember) it will help you shape your mesh usually with this method you mostly use the grab/transform to move the vertices in that euclidean space(2dplane)(make sure you sculpt/model in orthographic) and you can just use the smooth tool as normal. you may occasionally want to rotate and scale.

the next method is just like subdivision modelling you will have a low poly version and a high poly, but now youre actually going to be using the draw/push or pull tool to shape the mesh along with the transform to grab the mesh because now your higher poly mesh is going to be much denser like 6 divisions depending on the quality you want and the details you want. and once you finish sculpting on this you will take the higher poly information and bake it to the low poly it doesnt usually have to be the lowest version you have. you also need substance painter to be able to bake mesh normals onto another. to elaborate on this method some more, the reason zbrush is really great for sculpting is because with this method, zbrush is really flexible. In blender you need to use a modifier to make more divisions to add detail which is the same for zbrush but the problem with this modifier is that you need to apply it if you ever want to use the modelling tools. with zbrush it allows you to do both.

the last method is probably the easiest for you to understand but the most time consuming. you basically sculpt like you would in real life because the tools become dynamic. adding geometry based on the brush size,but after you finish you need to apply a zremesher or do retopology manually because your topology gets all jacked up. to work like this anyways you just enter sculptris mode in zbrush.

I've got holes all in my tablet screen. Not massive ones, just like little dents or whatever. I don't know how they got there, I assume just from me using it for over 2 years and it being a cheap £60 tablet. Anyway how do I fix them? Tape or sometihng? How do i prevent more? It's still usable, just somewhat annoying when I'm drawing. I also don't like feeling like with every pen stroke I'm making the holes that tiny bit bigger.

Depending on what kind of tablet you're using there're screen protectors on amazon that can work, but that might reduce the pressure sensitivity a bit. Honestly though, for a tablet that cheap, I'd consider just getting a new one; two years sounds like a pretty good chunk of time for a tablet of that quality to last you.

1. Everyone chooses a day.
2. On this day, wake up and write down the time.
3. Get on your computer and google Bridgeman's 'Constructive Anatomy' pdf.
4. Break out your sketchbook/tablet, and copy (by eyeballing) as many of the illustrations as you can, decently.
5. Check the time regularly, and once 24 hours have elapsed since the time you wrote down in (2.), put down your pencil/pen, wherever you are in the book.
6. Save/scan and post your results here in the thread.

(Note: You can eat, nap, rest, go to work, or refuse to be pried from your sketchbook all day, just do your best. If you have the will, this can be a single-shot fast track to igniting a burst of improvement. You’re your own boss.)
