Either post good examples of gesture drawing that we can all study from, your own work, or references for the thread to use.

Not really. Belive it or not to get better at drawing the human body you have to draw human bodies, weird right? Drawing cute girls doesn't make you a pervert. These are the same techniques art students have been using for centuries (Even gay artists drew nude women), the only time they didn't draw nude women was when the church was repressing art.

I really like your lines and figures. I think for the left most figure you're missing one of the best rhythms in drawing, which is the quad-knee-calf line. Observing athletic girls in real life makes it apparent how much energy there is in the S curve for the quad to the knee and shin. Even if it's not there like in her left leg it's in her right leg. I started to make sense of this going through Bridgman's Constructive anatomy and seeing it in a lot of drawings. It's really expressive and adds a lot more life to a drawing. The calf becomes an answer to the line made by the top of the quad.

For those who think this image is gibberish, Bridgman is a little obtuse at first until you have revelations of some of the small observations about life buried in the scribbles.

I use Japanese pen nibs, like mainly the G pen nib and the Kabura (spoon/bowl shaped nib). I don't like how bold these drawings are, so I added some Pilot grips to my pen holders, which allows me to get a thinner line.

The first one is edited in Photoshop to have a sepia look, while the other just had some plain pencil crayons. Some people prefer Copics because they handle well on smooth Bristol (unlike watercolour right?)

looks good but for two of them, bottom left and bottom middle, you have parallel lines for the pelvis and torso. we have https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contrapposto where we typically make the lines of shoulders and waist intersect. this allows us to shift the weight of our body and make for more interesting poses along illusion of depth/3d. i don't have a resource like a video or book to point you to off the top of my head but figure books should cover it.

actually there's a japanese book i remembered: (Tatsuya Ihara) Revolutioary Pose and Application of Contraposto Poses

Ok so i decided to give gesture drawing a try after like 6 months.
Any crits? Should i try to draw the least amount of lines as i possibly can(what i did with pic related)? Or should i try with more strokes to study the form better?

That is actually super helpful and something I never noticed on my own somehow?
Thanks a bunch.
Here are some more, these are 90 seconds per pose and a lot less lose (in a different mindset than last set). Did them before checking your reply so if you spot any parallel lines for pelis and torso theres my excuse.

Not really gesture related but these will be great for clay sculpting. I find myself without live model as of recently and having refferences with many angles is a blessing. Thank you anon

Is it ok to draw the same gesture for a couple of times until you get it right before moving on the next?

the waist is too small? I guess you have to focus on the whole gesture of thing instead of lump and bump which you can add on later
anyway here my croquis cafe session

My man you can draw the same thing hundreds of times if you want, but if you are doing an exercise that is timed it is better to keep going to finish all the poses instead of pausing all the time

God damn this looks fantastic.
I really wish I could do something similar, but whenever I use charcoal I just smear it all over and it looks messy and dirty as fuck. Maybe my sticks are too tender I don't know.

But seriously, seeing these makes me wanna keep trying.
