If you do something every day eventually it takes no effort, no energy, no matter how much attention you actually gave it. Time disappears and your project is done, and you go walk outside, and you stretch out so you don't actually fucking die.

Then you go back in and do it again until your head hits the goddamn keyboard.

This may not apply to you, or actually most people, but here's my story. I have noticed that it's much easier for me to follow tasks if I write them down beforehand. It makes them more solid in my eyes. Where previously I could allow myself some lax and skip for something totally random, now if I just sit down and write schedule on sunday for entire week ahead(including necesseties), I have actual meaningful path to stay on.

>> No.3856887

>>3856590
lmao. dear anon, please post your work. I would especially love to see one of your mindless routine artworks.

>> No.3856932

I'm a 30something with ADD but a reasonable art career so here's what I've developed over the years:

>Routine
Even if it's just a simple as 'draw on tues evenings' or as complex as those crazy NEET study schedules, routine helps anyone. It's one thing if you have a deadline and stay up all night 'in the zone', but don't make a habit irregular sleeping hours, it just takes from your next day.
This doesn't just extend to drawing as having a regular sleep, eat and exercise pattern will boost overall mood and learning ability, as does having a 'work area' and getting dressed. They say 2 weeks builds a routine.
This is my biggest issue atm because I fell into working irregular hours so I can't build a routine, it's so noticeable I'm changing jobs.
>Accountability
Having deadline and peers that you can talk to. Set deadlines for yourself on to-do type apps (Habitica is gamified and cute) and goals with attainable stages.
>Evaluate
Do you enjoy the things you spend your time on, are they worth your time? Be aware of what you realistically want to achieve and eliminate time wasting habits if they get in your way (StayFocusd can cut down useless online browsing).
>Be nice
If you just aren't a savant then constantly berating yourself isn't going to fix it. It's understood one size does NOT fit all when it comes to academic learning, addiction recovery etc so it's insane to expect drawing to be different. Don't be a dick to yourself, don't mollycoddle yourself but instead treat yourself like you would your best friend; acknowledge your achievements and cheer yourself on where you can but stay a firm realist about what needs to be changed for the better.

The best advice I ever had was from an ADHD message board but seems applicable to all, someone said the key is just doing the 'preparation'. E.g. open the word document for that essay you need to start, or put the pens and paper on the table, or open the drawing file in front of you. Once it's in front of you, you'll do it.

I would also recommend an app called "Headspace". It's a very nice and cheap app for guided meditation with a lot of courses on focus. Discipline comes quite easily if you manage to befriend your mind.
I always disregarded meditation thinking it aimed to teach people to stop giving a shit about anything, but turns out it's just a technique that helps you to be more productive and less stressful in everyday life.

it's odd to me how 'normal' it's become that the government keeps people poor and that 60% of ones earnings is immediately syphoned away by the dreidel brothers. and people still look down on you if you don't participate in the materialist consumer culture rat race that is subtly enforced in order to coerce people to keep their hamsterwheel spinning. i think as a freelancer you're just much more in tune with where money actually comes from (labour and effort) than officedrones who just look at their salary go from 6k to 2.5k and think 'that's just how it is!' and see their workday as just spending 8 hours at the office without doing much or being close to the actual product delivered by their jew-corp.

Draw for an hour, take 15 min break, draw for an hour, repeat. Lunch and dinner take a 30m break, you could watch an episode of something or goof off while eating. Divide hour into multiple half-hour activities when necessary, such as 30 min rendering shapes, 30m gesture, take break then move onto figure drawing etc. --- You can use stuff you did in one exercise for another, for example I did a page full of circles as warmup and later used them to construct skulls with.

Kinda but it wasn't 8 hours and it wasn't manual labor.
Even when I had to just work my mind keeps daydreaming and I can sort of autopilot some tasks but I can't actually focus on the task for multiple hours straight, that seems impossible. The only things I can do that with are just no brainers like watching anime or vidya. That's the internal problem with being a perfectionist. Studying helps but it'll distract you in the long run. Cutesexyrobots probably has enough self awareness to know he's not the best. Is work is littered with anatomical inaccuracies and his painting skills are average. However he must not give a shit because he keeps churning shit, learning along the way. That's really the only way to improve at a steady pace. You will spend years rendering perfect tits but forget to actually finish the entire piece caught up that it's masterpiece. So just draw shit til you get better and study often but don't make it your life.

ITT: Dickbrains. enjoy your FOTM artist that will likely fall for the pedo/furry/edgy meme and be forgotten by the next FOTM artist. Happens every time.

You need 3-5 years to build almost any skill to professional level unless you are a complete retard. That's assuming you do it on the side and don't dedicate all your time to it.

This post's making me rethink my habits. Probably should draw until getting stuck and then study the thing I have trouble with. Need to make more finished pieces, time is precious

Yeah, just finish thinks and move on. Don't think about it too much, just do it. Doesn't mean you shouldn't study and shit, but who cares if things aren't perfect.
