IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

TRY TO GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

REMEMBER, if you've just started out you work will not be good, it doesn't need to be, just get in to the swing of actually drawing, and learning how to study. Most of all, enjoy it.

"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do."

I assume you took heavy reference for the lower body, if not just traced it, as the upper body placement is not at all as consistent or accurate as the lower. She has little to no midsection, her arm with the crossbow is dislocated, head is too small, the neck too thick, etc. Stay away from colors, as you should be focusing heavily on b/w perspective and anatomy and basic drawing if anything. Also, draw the figure nude, this is not to create nsfw smut, but to help you better understand anatomy, as clothes are usually a later addition, and clothes have been used as a mask to hide said lack of understanding. Go on /s/, find some complex poses, and draw them, don't trace them, draw them.

Forehead and upper head need to be extended up, it looks like someone chopper her upper head off just at the brow. Lower jaw needs to be extended down some more, ear too small and misplaced. This is a hybrid symbol drawing that vers on the symbolic side.
>>3851393
Again, hybrid symbol drawing, is there an actual model, or was this made with your imagination with or without reference? You can get away with the under jaw on this one, but reduce the eye size, and the cheek and side jowl should be partially hiding the side of her nose and lips. Also, this is for both, the hands on both are way too small and bony. If you do studies of fingers and hands, you'll see that they are quite thick and sausage-like.

The face is quite a complex structure, many people just work on it as a partial spherical, curved oval, like the back of a spoon and add eyes, nose and a mouth to it, and nothing else. That's why people tend to have a rough time with doing faces other than essentially partial profile. You have to take into consideration the various indentions, jaw, under-jaw, rises and falls of the face, brow, cheeks, etc. I would do some studies on skulls (bone) too, from different angles and understand at least where things are most extreme in depth and indentions, notably the cheeks and jawlines, as when you add muscle, and tissue, it reduces the extremes of the expressions of the bare bones and kind of smooths things out, but understanding the under workings of the face will help a lot. When drawing a face, think of a skull, not a face, strip everything down to a skull, and then things fall into place a little better, but that's only 1/4th of the battle.

Do some value scale exercises, draw 5 squares in a row, then, color one in completely black on the righter most side of the last box, leave the left most side white but don't add anything to the white box, now work your way from the darkest/pure black box, slightly decreasing the darkness/value until you get to pure white from pure black, in each other box. I hope I articled that well enough. As for your values, there's only 2 values, semi-black and white, there should be more shades of greys, and blacks in there.

You should post a comparison pic, too. All I can say is that you should probably learn perspective and form first, because the cast shadows are inconsistent. Also, I think you should aim for a material(like matte) before doing values. Values are heavily dependent on their materials. For example, metals have a small threshold, whereas matte has a larger threshold (for light and dark). pic related for example. After deciding on a material, make/draw/paint it consistent across objects.

Learning to draw faces. He last few times I tried to draw a female face it came out looking like a male because of the proportions and blockyness of features. I know a woman with a strong jawline, but when I look at her, it’s obviously a woman, so there must be more nuanced differences between squared vs rounded features - what are they?

Imagine a stick figure, except the sticks are noodles connecting head to body to limbs, all based on the overall "flow" of the body's s-curve.
The noodles are running a relay race, passing on the flow of the gesture.
When you want to get a pose and you take a gesture, you're looking for the attitude of the pose rather than an accurate representation of the form.
It's basically just a loose extension of the Line of Action to include the limbs and the attitude of the head.

I know man, I still didn't grasp gesture correctly but I kind of understand how it works, Hampton's book helped me a lot because he is more descriptive instead of some "feel the flow" kind of talk.

Your problem is that you have no conception of how to depict 3D form on paper/drawing surface. Also, the reference you chose isn't very good, especially for your level of skill. There's a lot of overlapping body parts, half of her body is hidden behind her leg, and there is no strong light source.

Try Drawabox to learn how to draw 3d forms, then read Loomis to apply that knowledge.

I bought an Apple Pencil like a year ago for notes and whatnot, so I decided to use that instead of buying a separate PC tablet with the same capabilities for hundreds of dollars. Try basic spheres, cylinders and cubes first to get a grip on 3D shapes and perspective. (Remember to wrap two lines around spheres to establish an axis, otherwise it‘ll look like a flat circle.)
Then you can use variations of these shapes and combine them to do step 1 and 2.

You should probably skip the 2 latter steps though.

You're not actually following the forms with your lines. You have to learn to "see" the shapes as 3D objects and then use your lines to follow along the imaginary surface of those 3D objects. I'm far from the best at it but here's an example of what I mean. It might take a while to really get it but it's important that you do. It helps to start out by drawing around simpler objects with ellipses, tracing even the side you can't actually see. See the bottom example.

that wasn't my intention, rather i was trying to show you that by using LOOMIS you could have a basic understanding of proportions regardless of the style you chose except for SD, thats why i drew these two heads which are using literally loomis , and by eyes not being in the center i mean is a landmark to keep the proportions right, the point where you draw the eyes is right in the middle of the face, technically just trace a line vertically and in the middle is where you should place the eyes this is mostly for young people, in adults the middle point is the base and you draw the eyes above this point then again it's just a landmark.
if you draw huge eyes but you keep some proportions of an adult person like big jaws, looks really off

you should make the form more understandable. Put shadows together. your reference photo is not good, very sharp light. you are lacking midtone, i would make light gray everywhere on the light side and then erase the highlights, you should follow the planes of the head with how much of an intensity you shade with. anatomy can also use some work, i can see ears are sloppy and not aligned, also the right side of the mouth is very close to the nose, almost on the same level when on the pic it is not. make it clear where there are shadows and where is light.

it literally doesn't even look that different to me. How about you try drawing it?

There is a difference. Your eyes are somewhat off and your hair needs a point where it starts, your ref does have that point. Just continue working on construction and perspective, you'll get there.

Gym has routines that you follow everyday and you get results.
Running has it the same.
Writing also and same goes for gaming etc.
What is the /beg/ to /advanced/ routine to do EVERYDAY? How should I construct it?

>20 min gesture
>40 min from life
>daily
?
Is there a guide like this? thanks
