not sure what the point of that piece is, but photobashing has a purpose. if you use it for hardsurface concept art, OR in the rare cases of card art, it can be fantastic.

My only real complaint about photobashing, is that it tricked me into thinking it was hand done for a long time.
"How are they painting like this, these textures the anatomy it's all perfect" then you learn the trick and take away the skill admiration, and all you're left with is thousands of pictures in the same art style.

This look awesome.
I think people get caught up in the technical aspect of art, and develop a sort of ego tied to their own personal skill level, and they forget the main purpose of art: to get an image on the canvas and make it look as visually appealing as possible. No rules, just tools...

Except, unless it's a really high level, hand drawn parts stand out and you see they're not well drawn. Kuciara is high level, his works do the job illustrating the needed scene but it's not aesthetically pleasing for me at all. But it's mainstream so no surprise it's kitschy

So how does it make you feel that the Industry is actively hiring photobashers and art fundamentals are laughed at. Yet photobashers produce work that is infinitely more awe inspiring to normies than anything you can do with your loomis and your art fundamentals, plus they produce higher volumes and also make more way money than you will ever make with your loomis and your art fundies.

Is there a reason you hate it other than jealousy of it’s place in concept art production? This shit is almost never final product, rarely ever promo art. It’s not like hand-drawn art just got replaced, it’s still part of pre-production in a lot of studios. Not all studios are making photorealistic product which is what photobashing seems typically used for. It has a place in video game dev and feature film pre-production, so even if those pieces weren’t photobashed or painted-over 3D models, and were instead hand-drawn, you would never see it.

I actually just watched this video today for the first time.

I was pretty shocked by what I saw. I always thought I was miles away from reaching the level of pro concept artists, but it turns out, theyre all using shortcuts, and most of them probably have lower skills than me currently. I also liked when that one girl asked him about stylized concept art, and he said that he didn't know, and that people with GOOD art skills are rare.

Thus, that's the secret. When the market oversaturates, and starts shifting.more toward stylized work, people with good technical skills will be worth a lot. Thus, imma keep working on my art.

That saud, it's good to know a well-paying job isn't too out of reach, just gotta learn 3D and practice some photobash for an impressive portfolio. That's all it really took all along.

I have no idea who that is, but I've done concept art and character design for indie games before. I've always known that big shot studios prefer realism, it always felt out kf my reach, but now that I know the secret, it seems easy enough.

I personally still prefer stylized work, and to me, concept art is a backup gig, I'd much rather get paid for my own IP.

I don't care about the videogame/movie industry and I would shoot myself if I had to churn out that garbage for a living, I dabble in a little photo stuff and use photo textures sometimes but doing everything with bashing and no drawing would fucking kill my soul.

To normies, yeah. I like rough pencil art a whole lot more than photorealistic future SWAT.

I love his manifesto
>Hailed as the most innovative designer of his time, Mr Concept Art has quickly become a symbol of community, love, and creativity; a beacon of hope in an otherwise dark, twisted world. He gives us the gift of the Near Future and teaches us much about the art of chromatic aberration, high passes, and low passes, lens flares, and motion blurs. We have learned from him that concept art in its purest form truly does have to look like a screen capture of a VHS Ridley Scott movie from the mid-1980s.

I've had several phases regarding photobash.

Phase 1. You are starting to get into drawing/painting and researching other professional artists. You see all these amazing peaces with huge amount of detail, polished rendering, Correct fundies(anatomy, perspective ect.), things you can only dream of doing.

Phase 2. You learn photobashing exists and it's incredibly widespread. You also start getting better at painting, you know fundies much better and maybe have dabbled into using some of the soft used for photobashing. You start noticing where and how photos were used, out of placed painted parts ect. You start to lose admiration towards artists who use Photobashing.

Phase 3. You get pretty good at art and also start working. There's a lot of work to do as a concept artist, so you just HAVE to use that shitty technique you hate so much, but your results look much worse than those you saw online. You slowly start to regain admiration for those peaces

Fuck photobashing for killing realistic digital art and fuck industry that basically forces you to use it
