Being popular scales of your ability to network and appeal. Sure, being versed in your craft helps but it isn't a requirement. When it comes to Diives, he has a cute style and draws a lot of porn, oh and most of it is pokemon. So it should be no surprise as to why he's gotten as popular as he has.

Very few people care how many boxes you grind or if you can do 1:1 copies of pictures. Appeal is king, normal anatomy is not. You just fell for the wrong idea of what "good art" is, because good art evokes a response from the viewer.

Diives is probably one of the better popular porn artists desu - his style is pretty cute, he doesn't make every character look like a western slut and actually tries to convey their character. That being said, normies don't care about the quality of the art, they just want a) flashy / nicely rendered turds or b) a boner

Popularity isn't about quality, eg. Sakimichan, Shadman. It's about marketing, about being at the right place at the right time, and about supply and demand.
The main thing to know is that as other anons pointed out, it doesn't need to be technically good, it only needs to LOOK good.
Diive's cheap gifs work because it's clean-looking, cute and colorful.
Sakimchi's stuff works because despte the wonky proportions smudge overdose rendering it'll still look professional and stylized to the untrained eye.

Outside of the porn side of their work, a common thing a lot of these artists share is that they can put their shit out there very fast, to jump and cash in on trends and fotm popular characters. They all use flashy, sometimes oversaturated colors. There are patterns, things to learn about their stuff, take notes of what you see anon, it really will help you if you want an online following.
