When I was developing seriously, I found 'Figure Drawing Without a Model' by Ron Tiner, and it basically gave me everything that I needed. I wanted to be a comic artist back then.

I've gotten tons of books since, I guess I didn't go as diligently through them as I did with this one, just hoarded them. But the lessons and style from it stuck, 15 years later.

Nah this book's dated at best. Has you going out to train tracks and climbing towers. It's not a good book if it requires you to draw things that may not even exist where you live.

I don't think Anatomy for sculptors is something you 'learn from'.

For example, to learn a foreign language you buy a student's textbook and a dictionary. You learn from the textbook and only use the dictionary for reference, that doesn't mean the dictionary isn't helpful.
A student's book equivalent in figure drawing would be Hampton's figure drawing, Huston's book or Vilppu's manual. Bammes, Zarins etc are anatomy dictionaries.

Great explanations, some exercises, surplus of well lit references, transparent pages of muscle/bone you put on top of the photos, master studies comparing the anatomy to a photo, her drawings are incredible and shes also a teacher. It might just come down to preference but one of the best anatomy books is never talked about here. Its also cheaper. Don't have anything against anatomy for sculptors but I believe this book is generally better.

Spiderman. Quite literally. If I imagine I'm drawing Spiderman, whatever I planned to draw becomes more dynamic and well proportioned, he's like the ultimate mannequin with big eyes and I have a very clear memory of him always swinging and punching and kicking all over the place. They could have called it "The Hidden Secrets of Anatomy" or "The Masonic Secrets of Anatomy in Art" But that would raise unwanted attention.
By calling it Anatomy for Sculptors they know that most will pull up their nose at it, ironically proclaiming "i am a true artist ! not some sculptor !"
And thus these hidden secrets are preserved and only those intended to will lay their eyes upon them. Blessed be they ! True Artists !
