What are your routines for drawing as much as possible without destroying your wrists?

I've been in pain for months

Draw to my max then draw to my most efficient speed and never surpass it but can go below it.

Why aren’t you drawing from the elbow like youre supposed to?

You're right. I try to, but then I unintentionally start using my wrist anyway over time. Definitely something I need to work harder on sorting out.

use a soft pencil.

Gestures with full arm, then do detailed with my wrist. Wear a brace while at work or shit posting.

i wrap my pencil/pen in cloth to thicken it. that way i don't have to grip that hard. i think you can buy stuff like that

My index finger hurts after drawing and there's a small nodule at its base, I draw from the elbow and don't even have a death grip. How do people who draw 8+ hours a day do it without any permanent injuries?

So is carpal tunnel.

>draw for 30 min
>2 hour break
>draw for 30 min

wait are you being serious? I was under the impression everyone on this board would be drawing ~4-6 hours on a work day, ~8 hours when not working.

You're certainly looking after your wrists though..

Drawing from the shoulder and elbows more. It's not a meme.

My best friend is a physical therapist/fine artist and I am a bit lucky in that respect. Proper massage and mechanics we're a game changer for me. I can draw for twice as long with properly applied technique.

Honestly, get a secondhand massage workbook from a used bookstore.

I use one of these. Never experienced wrist pain once.

>bad wrist from old mountain biking injury
>bad elbow from one of the times i fell off a horse and didn't land right
>bad shoulder from canicross injury

I draw through my pain, but maybe I should just switch to my non-dominant hand. I've only got a bad wrist on my left, not the shoulder or the elbow problems.

>>3823998
Thanks. I'll look into that and keep training myself to not draw from the wrist.

>>3824068
I could see this working with a normal drawing tablet but I use a screen one so I don't really see how that would work lol

But won't lifting ruin your elbow?

Draw from your shoulder and glide your hand over the canvas with without moving your wrist, of course there are times when you have to use your wrist for smaller details, but the majority of the drawing can be done from the shoulder and elbow.
>but now my shoulder hurts
Because you're using muscles that you're not used to using, you'll get use to it and it'll pay off in the long run.
