So I'm thinking to myself, "man, these fundies suck. learning this shit is a chore, who wants to just draw gay fuckin boxes all day", when an idea struck me.

What better way to learn to draw geometry and perspective than by drawing robots and machinery? It's rigid, logically built to be proportional, and occupies a large area of overlap with simple geometry, just with added details. You can start with stereotypical toy robots and work your way up to computers, then cars, then planes, spaceships, mecha.

And once you've mastered the box weeks later, having had fun the whole ride with an easy-to-dig aesthetic, you can move on to figure construction using the geometric knowledge and confidence you've gained.

Post whatever resources you've got on cool sci-fi machinery. Boxy mechs, cool cyberpunk rooms, tutorials or guides, or just general inspiration. If it's drawings or pictures of machines, we want 'em.

Well then I guess the like 4 or 5 of us who are actually interested in art can post here.

What are some good machines or vehicles to do studies on to get better at drawing your own grounded, believable mechs/vehicles/environments? Examples of movies, games etc

As far as movies I'm mostly just pulling Alien or Blade Runner. But Evangelion has some nice machines and architecture also

Real ones, that's where a lot of the big japanese mecha designers get their inspiration from.

I made a Pinterest board with a bunch of machinery and mechanical looking stuff if you guys are interested. About 130 pictures of military helmets, tanks, aircrafts, landing gear, construction equipment, industrial robots, etc.
