What are your favourite classical artworks? I need suggestions on what to display in my house. Must be classical or renaissance only...

>> No.3806150

Are there any classical works that resemble anime?

This picture doesn't even come to close to the original, probably the most beautiful thing I've ever seen

On 4chan most boards move slowly since there's a much lower amount of posters, good to keep in mind on any board that isn't one of the popular ones

This isn't classical/renaissance art. It's realist academic art. It uses classical themes but it is not actually in the style OP asked for.

Second this. I got to see it in person several times when it was hanging in the Met in NYC - photos don't and can't do it justice. First, the colors. The fucking colors. Two, it's a large painting, life size figures, if not bigger.

It's a spectacular painting. It's permanent home is at the Clark Art Institute, in Massachusetts, go see it, if you can. They have a very impressive collection, anyway, lots of Turners and Constables.

Second is "Spring" by Alma Tadema. I've seen it many times at the Hearst Museum in Malibu. Another spectacular painting in person that photos don't even come close to doing justice for.

I used to have a large poster of this, destroyed in a move, that everyone liked a lot.

From Bouguereau's wikipedia page:
"In his realistic genre paintings he used mythological themes, making modern interpretations of classical subjects, with an emphasis on the female human body."

From the Realism wikipedia page:
"In the visual arts, illusionistic realism is the accurate depiction of lifeforms, perspective, and the details of light and colour. But realist or naturalist works of art may, as well or instead of illusionist realism, be "realist" in their subject-matter, and emphasize the mundane, ugly or sordid."
