Great news everyone! This time I bought something without mold on it! I also know the story of the artist, AND it's not on rotting wood!

For photos and posters - maybe. I've never had them last long for anything.

Properly hanging a painting is mounting hardware on the back, either a bracket or wire, and a NAIL and hanger, set into a stud. If you have crown molding, and don't want to hammer into the wall, drop a wire from the crown molding to the painting, 2 wires, many galleries do this. Or, display your thrift store treasure on an easel.

Decent ones, sure. But there's a cheap version of everything on Ebay. Definitely worth more than the painting, even at $20.

I just have this sneeking suspicion that this is all some elaborate fantasy of inviting women over to his Fully Functioning Babe Lair™, where he has REAL ART, and he even KNOWS THE ARTISTS NAME, so who wouldn't fuck someone with such refinement and taste?

The only problem is, his "art" is exactly on the level of sad clowns and puppies with big eyes and black velvet matadors, and is collected by grannies who like "cute" things. If there's one thing it doesn't do - and hilariously so - is that he has any taste in art. It's not even a good "cute street urchin" painting, it's dull and frankly butt ugly.

But, there's a reason thrift shops stay open - people like OP.

This is true. I can recognize that this piece MAY fit in somewhere with paintings that cost $5000 because later this can be considered "cheap, simple, yet entertaining and that the collector bought something cute because everything else he has is state of the art", but if you have this piece alone and nothing else that is actually nice

People are just going to go: "FUCKING KEK WOW WHAT A SHITTY CHEAP BASTARD YOU ARE"

AKA, the only way for this painting to work is that if you actually fucking invest more than $200 on a piece and surround this piece with art WORTH THOUSANDS. Invest in paintings or don't buy them OP. And yes I know you bought this one for $200 cuz I reverse searched it.

>> No.3789171

>> No.3789175

>>3789164
There's a reason they cost that much - and this crap you keep posting about has none of the qualities that make them cost that much.

This is throwaway kitsch that someone found in an attic or garage. It's not in any way, shape or form the start of an actual art collection.

We've been over this before. There are plenty of actual painted pieces by small time artists, even local to you, at affordable rates. You're either trolling, or have an autistic fixation on owning a painting, regardless of what it looks like.

>> No.3789179

>>3789171
Art can be a good investment, if you buy the right pieces. Old stuff tends to have a stable price, so it's like buying a roll of gold coins, or jewelry, or real estate - you can at least get your money back if you need cash. The stuff that appreciates is either famous works by famous artists, or "hot" artists in the art world, and those generally start around $5k-10k, if you get in early. Lars from Metallica did that, and I think profited 35 million when he sold a lot of it off - and most of it was modern stuff by trendy artists.
Short version - art investing/collecting is a rich person's game.

A painting like that is like hanging a Playboy centerfold in your living room, anyway.

I have posters and paintings of things I like to look at. Do you like looking at this painting? Then buy it. That should be your only reason for buying art at the bottom of the barrel level you're looking at.

No, but what's the point? You generally don't hang paintings in corners, but it suits that awful thing, because it's in shadow. The painting/print on the right should be centered in the space, as it's actually nice, and that dreck urchin thing sent back to the seller.

What the pros do is apply really thin nails at the corner of the painting and frame. That way, you don't go through the wood frame, which is hard to nail through, just the canvas. The corners get overlooked often so it's not damaging to the aesthetics.
