I got to see this in person, Roger used to do gallery tours, and I caught one of them - got to meet him, chat for a minute, and had him sign a couple of his books.

Photos don't do his paintings justice. He uses REALLY bright colors. They had most of the Yes stuff on display, and a lot of the older works - he experimented with metallic paint a lot, which doesn't come across in photos.

Amazing artist. If he ever does a gallery tour again, GO.

Also, if you're near SF, the Art Exchange is selling this painting. It's only $165,000.

this >>3787274 is technically well executed, but the light greens are oversaturated and the huge old tree trunk is the main reason to rate this as a fantasy pic, bordering on a "traditional" landscape painting. But it really tilts towards fantasy genre and The Hobbit set designs. All I'm saying is that there are concept art landscapes and there are artistic landscapes and the two don't really mix. When they do, they are a bit of an abomination.

>> No.3795166

>>3795137
There are concepts and there are illustrations.

OP's picture is simply an illustration. whether you want to discuss the proper color for foliage, that's an entire other debate, but in my opinion, the green hue will always depend on the atmosphere. The Viridian Green in OP's pic is what makes it more fantasy, rather a generic landscape painting, as well as what you mentions, it's large tree trunk.

>concept art landscapes and there are artistic landscapes

Let's use proper terms.Illustrations and concepts are two different things. They cannot be "mixed".
