How do I emulate THIS art style? I absolutely love this style but I feel like you sorta have to be a natural at it to be able to envision it. What do?

>do quick loose sketch
>add random background shapes
>add some paint strokes
>overlay canvas texture and hue gradient
done

And here is something I drew in comparison. I haven't drawn since I made this and I'm only just getting back into it

It's good, but Shinkawa uses a lot more negative space. When sketching out before inking, really think about what parts of the drawing you can just suggest to rather than inking out.

you need to learn anatomy pretty good in order to stylize it
from that point on it's up to you how you're gonna stylize it
i would recommend:
-2x big realistic charcoal model drawings every week.
-every day 30 minutes quick poses

experiment with stylization, if you have a clear goal it will be easier

>how do I emulate the "style" of this absolute legend.
all he does is draw with ink, a brush, some pencils, and a few digital manipulations

The real trick here is to be so good and have so much control of your tools that you can use very loose things to create a solid image.

Brush pen.
Draw quickly with heavy shadow and negative space.
Dont be afraid to make "mistakes". Be rough.
Watch some videos of Shinkawa drawing, watch his hand movement and get a feel for his strokes.
Dont draw the outline of your subject. Like I said, NEGATIVE SPACE! Let the mind fill in the blanks.
If this thead is still up tomorrow I'll post some drawings.

as many of the others said. it takes practise witrh anatomy first of and after that , to do as in the artpiece linked , you need good sense of perspektive too.. its not not easy. but if you want to do something like him . id suggest finding a random shot from a movie where you think it looks cool and try draw what you see only . and do it quick. dont put too much detail into it . and do alot of sketches like that. eventually you will get better and better sense of the human body and also perspektive :)

Now THAT is what I call a good idea
>I absolutely love this style but I feel like you sorta have to be a natural at it to be able to envision it. What do?
possible that they're planning out the anatomy and geography and gesture and stuff as a different layer and then do do the pen layer we're seeing on top. Has a quickly traced kind of vibe.

Or maybe they're just really great at visualizing stuff and quickly eyeballing where some lines should go idk. Left hand makes it seem like it's just a quick thing.

They do have a grid snuck into there huh. I wonder if that's the point of that vertical slash. Gotta be right. That's about right where you'd want that vertical line. Right next to the face, stops right around where the head does. Is this a thing? Do we all know this?

Kind of seems like the purpose of blackground design is being built around hiding guidelines.

From looking at his art I would bet all my money that he studied traditional sumi-e.

If you need to ask how to imitate a style, you're not good enough to imitate it.

You /beg/gars really think that graphic elements are designed to hide gridlines, huh?
