none of them are finished. Generally either go by when the canvas first got paint on it when determining how to number it. Get's tricky because I've generally started like 10 canvasses at a time so figuring out the order is a hassle.

A: That's not an actual personality disorder. It's not even an outdated one really. Like the idea of "hysteria" as a mental illness is like Freud era memes. That's from when we used to give women cocaine and vibrators when they got anxious.

Colors are washed out and ugly. Heavily desaturated like you incorporate too much white or black without thinking of alternative colors to get the desired results. Because of this, your paintings appear flat. Hair and clothes are flat as well.

Don't develope bad habits. I think you should familiarize yourself with your medium and best ways to mix colors.

Year 1 was misusing black paint, mixing it with skin tones and trying to water it down and use that to darken tones. Year 2 has been misusing white paint, gesso, retarder, matte gel, etc.

yeah the theory is that you can do this by forcing yourself to learn the dumbest ways to mix colors. Learn about the mans by which certain things dont work from first hand experience.

Yeah I guessed that's what we were talking about. Most of the canvasses I've been using for the past few months have been pre-primed too so all the gessoing and stuff is basically just for the process of it. Which is fun since in year one I was only using untreated canvasses and I wasn't doing underpaintings.

I don't sabotage them on the critique board. I sabotage them on the table. Like pict related is one where I had already been ruminating about the concept of "an afterbirth of better efforts" as I was looking back at how I'm naturally inclined towards production. Like I'll spend all day working on one thing, and then when I start getting frustrated or too disassociated or whatever, I'll switch to a different canvas and kind of take abuse it so I don't fuck up the thing I actually cared about. So with pict related I had a retarded amount of black paint after doing another pass on Me Who? I had this half done daisy ridley painting, which is like the 4th daisy ridley painting that was done as a fuck you throwaway, so I just used all the dang black paint making it look weird and trying to write japanese symbols for trash and poop and stuff.

Oh yeah I understood that you essentially never want to use black paint before I did for the first painting in the race. A big part of the process for the 1. Sadfleck painting was that I tried my darnedest to do things "right", but then I got to a point where the eyes looked retarded, so out of frustration I blackened them to try and find the eye shape again, and I just kind of liked it how it was. Then I spent like 19 paintings chasing that "theory" of trying your darnedest until you "black out." All of them made it to a certain point before cancerous black started being forced into the mix.

and here's the year 2 squeakquel. Year one was a graphite transfer, year 2 was a grid. year one was watery and black and exposed canvas and "shallow" translucent layering, year 2 was 3 layers of primer and underpainting before I started stacking matte gel strokes. these 2 are super "serious" to me. The one on the right is one of the ones kept in the "grab first in case of another fire" milkcrate. They're about confronting the anxiety I had developed after I stopped drawing for a decade. They're also what I would consider something I would consider "serious." Pict related is also one that I would consider "serious." It kind of was the inception point for the wabi sabi (embracing imperfection and impermanence and emptiness or meaninglessness or whatever). It was also the point where I came up with the structure for building the first couple years around lyrics from a Tool song. Like I was already obsessing about misusing black paint and was trying to figure out when I should fucking stop doing that, and then while working on it I accidentally did a brush stroke with the highlights on the bottom left. And idk if the song happened to be playing or if I just thought of it and started playing it, but then I started going bananas with the highlights and kind of whited out a lot of what was otherwise a finished painting. Got all manic with the idea of spending all of the next year ruining paintings with whites.

one thing now that I only have like 15 days left in year 2 that I realize with reflection is I basically never even got to the point where I was fucking up paintings with "whites" as in, in the highlights phase, as in, at the end of the painting. I barely even made it to the actual "whites" phase. Instead I just gooped up all the darks and mid tones with whites and additives which led to an entirely different type of goofsthetic than the one I was originally all jazzed about when I was goofing up >>3770005

I really barely even applied "whites" to anything this year. I just made hundreds of 1/2 - 2/3 done paintings with no highlights and bleached dark tones. Everything just looks blue. That's an interesting thing to note now that it's too late. I think technically this is the first one that I would say was fully part of the LSD microdosing experiment. I basically drew out the entire anatomical facial structure using a bunch of pictures of cadavers and graphics illustrating the face muscles, then I painted them all in in blue, then I kind of spazzed out and started adding weird storkes in red, then after enjoying how fucking retarded that looked for a few weeks I painted over all of that shit with a bluey white shin thing. Like I learned SO much stuff and then managed to do something that only kind of makes me want to shoot at it.

I'll have to figure out the numbering in august or whatever. I think when I was numbering things then it was last worked on, instead of date when paint was put on canvas. It's gone back and forth a few times.

kind of just effortlessly and very quickly made what could be close to one of my best paintings. The only thing I'd consider a mistake is the forehead smudge, everything else gets to fuck you in the unfinished memespace.

Like the whole yin/yang concept, structure and chaos competing or however we want to define it. Where when you apply that to art, we kind of determine what makes "good" art when it either rides the line between those things, subverts them, or executes them well. Art is about creative inspiration that comes from from technical production. I'd say I've always been pretty heavily invested in subversion or riding the line, but there's something about pict related, imhotep, that maybe starts to hint at the possibility that they could be well executed AND subversive idk. I get aesthetic feels from it. I feel like Kanye listening to his own album when I look at it. Makes me want to kill myself.

I'd say this one is serial because in terns of personal connection memes it's the second of the LSD microdosing era, first that was actually executed in a way that didn't take like 30 hours over a few months.

eh I've found that it has a lot of benefits as a creative and motivational tool. By endlessly arguing about nonsense and/or art or whatever else it's always an opportunity to try rewriting your ideas or jokes or arguments against actively antagonistic text generators that will pretty much always just oppose and argue against whatever you say, lets you fine tune your rhetoric, challenge your ideas, work on writing out your concepts, etc.

And then in terms of motivational, I was definitely much more productive in terms of total output in spring and late winter of 2018 when I wasn't using any meme or social media than I was when I was posting here again in summer-present. But at the same time, there are a lot of benefits from constantly interacting with human gnats that are always willing to feed my masochistic spite impulse. I find a lot of benefit from interacting with a frustratingly dumb or angry person, and then painting about it for the next few hours after. Like the interference they create informs and motivates the decisions I make, sometimes out of spite, on the painting. Like as I ruminate on the conversation and the ideas from the conversation later, those ideas and themes become associated to me as I'm working, with specific things that I'm doing in the painting. So if I'm mulling over an idea or dialogue tree while doing a more fluid, blended approach, and then I start to get annoyed or bored with the argument or idea happening in my head, it's often reflected by a shift where I start doing things that actively sabotage the things I was doing as a way to change the subject. Just find benefit in having an argument or some kind of competing ideas going on in my head while I'm working. Makes it so that I'm less anxious about what I'm working on by giving all the annoying, distracting parts of my mind have something else to obsess about.

Plus I have some experience with editing to music and stuff and its all kind of part of musical construction type of memes.

I think of painting, particularly when it's starting with graphite transfer or exact proportional grids, as kind of like playing music. You start with the sheet music, or the image on the canvas, and then the process of painting it is how you choose to compose the piece, etc.
