idw's artist editions are fantastic although virtually impossible to independently digitize due to their size and price

they're reprints of western comic book artboards in their their original size; idw released a smaller, cheaper one containing jack kirby's stuff not too long ago

Does anyone know if this book exists in English? I was thinking about scanlating it(for my own benefit) and uploading it, but I don't want to go through the trouble if there's already an English edition available. As far as I can tell there isn't but I just wanted to make sure.

Does anyone know any good tutorials on scanning books? I've done translation and typesetting, but never scanning. It's a 7000 yen book so I want to make sure I know what I'm doing before I cut it up.

You can't take it for granted that because it is "popular", somebody is going to do it. There are plenty of "popular" books being asked for all the time here. Somebody who has bought it needs to feel saintly enough to scan it and to follow through on the promise/scanning process. There has been plenty of those that have fallen through after promising to scan as well.

I own a decent scanner, but it's kind of small and the book is insanely thick(about 650 pages.) Scanning it without cutting probably won't come out very nice, which would be a shame since it's got some really good attention to detail.

I'm mostly just looking for tips on getting the glue off and removing the the pages as cleanly as possible.

I don't know much about that. But I think a book's cover is like the marketing of a product. It should grab viewer's attention, so that they want to look at the content. So they must be beautifully made, right.
With the official The Art of- book (game or movie), you already watched/played so you can expect the art quality even if the cover is just plain color and text (but still it will lose attention of people who doesn't, it's the company's lost).
With independent artist, they mostly use their art on the cover, so it kind of tell us about the content's quality, right.

Of course, in the end it's the content that count.

The cover has no necessary correlation to the quality of information of the book. Covers even change from one edition to the next and in different markets. If you've read or skimmed enough art books then you know that there's no way to know if it works for you until you see it and try it. As an artist you should not get fooled by marketing.

Sorry, I thought we're talking about kind of mostly picture artbook, not the art-education book.
To me, those art-education books are all about principles, mostly the same (like 100 anatomy books tell you kind of same thing) so I only keep some of them I like most. The other kind artbook like game, movie and anime artbook (what I come here for) show how other artist apply those principles by their own style, that I keep as much as I my HDD can.

I agree that not all great artists are great teachers, so it's true in your case. But in my case (picture art book), I still depend on the cover (of course I will google for review and artist first).

I made almost all the .cbr myself. I downloaded some of them from e-hentai using gallery-dl and then compressed the folder into a .rar file. After that you just have to change the extension from .rar to .cbr.

holy cow i feel bad if anyone spent money on any of the cgma/whatever masterclass videos i've watched. not sure if them or watts is a bigger /beg/ money sink. think i've watched or have anything i need to on cgp. all that knowledge just makes me feel bad about how scummy art education still is today. $12 marshall vandruff dvd is better than almost every environment or perspective course i've seen which lays out the basics of perspective for the thousandth time but at a 30x markup.
