Forget basic shapes, I can't even draw a line properly. How do I overcome all my lines looking like I'm having a seizure while drawing? Can I make it if I can't even control the pen properly?

>> No.3724554

Use lighter pressure, and don't hold the whatever you're drawing with in a death gri, and of course practice. Thats what helped me improve.

To see what I mean, make a fist, and the start squeezing. You'll notice the harder you squeeze the more your fist will shake.

Hope it helps

What the fuck do you expect?

Stabilizer might be helpful to smoth out small shakines and uneven pressure if you use the minimal setting but do not use a heavy stabilizer as some king of slow mo easy mode, or you will never learn to use your hands properly

watch this video an do the exercises every day or so/whenever you start feeling rusty after you've already gotten good at it (i also suggest doing the same exercises but from the other side of the paper/rotating about the opposite way, makes you more versatile). you gotta find out the right speed an angles to approach lines so that you can do them how you want to, it's just a matter of learning your own muscle memory

also draw without a stabilizer for a few years, then get one but only use the subtle setting, you'll feel like rock lee with the weights off

I mean yeah you could go the traditional -> screen tablet route. And I know you said pen but you might be referring to some stupid synonym for the brush/pencil tool, so I'll say it - using your mouse to draw is a waste of time

Holy fuck /ic/ you can't even figure out how to draw a fucking line? You honestly think there is ANY OTHER FUCKING ANSWER other than PRACTICE? Do you REALLY think there is some super secret technique to drawing a fucking line?

Fucking PRACTICE. That's how you draw a line. That's how you learn how to draw anime, or cars, or fucking dinosaurs. It's how you learn to sew, drive a car, speak a language, ANYTHING. Fucking keep doing it until you fucking get better at it over time as humans are fucking do automatically.

You will need to figure out what is actually holding back your line quality first.
It's usually either the medium you're using, your motor skill, or your understanding of the subject matter you're drawing

If you can draw lines well on one medium, yet you can't on another, it might be the medium that's holding you back. This is not to imply that the medium is bad, though. More likely is that you're simply not used to it. Do some research on the medium you're having trouble with or seek some advice from your peers just to make sure you're not doing something horrendously wrong. Other than that, it's simply a lot of practice.

If you still can't draw even a basic line or shape cleanly and confidently regardless of medium, that means it's your motor skill that's holding you back.
Thankfully, that can be easily rectified with exercises like Dynamic Sketching. Do it for a few weeks and you should notice immediate improvement.

But if you can already do that kind of stuff, yet your line quality drastically goes to shit when you draw more complex subjects (figure, face, architecture, etc.), that means it's your understanding of the subject matter that is holding you back.
This is obviously a much more complex problem and there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution for it. Rigorous studies, research and practice of the subject matter would be the only way through this.

The following is the best advice any budding artist can ever receive:
Never erase a line. The erase tool is the biggest crutch in modern digital art. Take it from me. If you have ever erased a line you're not an artist, sorry not sorry.
