Yes, some porn/anime artists had some temporary success on patreon, but they took all pie, and there is no chance for new artists to enter the golden gates of patreon porn.

Just don’t put it in your portfolio or let it dominate your time in art. Moderation, exc.

Now this is just naive. Companies are getting involved in their fanbases now more than ever thanks to the internet and a lot of people are being scouted to work for a lot of them based on their contributions in content to said companies online.
Actual good porn artists are capable of drawing either incredibly on model in their work or just to a high degree of quality (see: skullgirls). Brands in particular are going to take notice of the porn being produced of their IP, if you're good it's actually a really good way to get noticed.
That's without even mentioning Japanese brands who literally don't give two fucks if you draw porn or not, it's pretty common as an artist in japan to do so using a pen name there.
Just be smart and use an alias, don't tie your real name to your porn work, and also work on some SFW art on the side.
