I am, however, also of the opinion that open discussion and constructive feedback is vital for people who wish to grow as an artist, but do acknowledge it can be frightening for people who are experimenting or trying to venture outside their comfort zone. Regardless, straight up abusive or unhelpful comments would be removed, and repeat offenses of that sort will not be tolerated.


Also, I know some of you nerds are really into UI/UX design, so if there's a particular model that you think is a good framework, or certain qualities that you think should find their way into DAD, let me know, since I do have an interest in the topic but have next to no understanding (I mean, we did see the trainwreck that was my attempt at revamping).

1). /beg/s can still give critiques on things they found unappealing if they have an eye for it. Not a valid reason to dismiss it alltogether.

2). This is 4chan. It's a cesspit of autism and crippling depression. Its a more than likely scenario where you have say, User A commenting on User B saying he didn't do something well at all, and User B, being autistic, goes on a rage and starts shitting on every work of User A indiscriminately.

User A, knowing this can happen, avoids giving the critique altogether, or rather softens it to the point of being a non-issue apathetic comment to not have to deal with this shit.

The opposite case with anonymous being, of course, people acting like shitheads because they can do it anonymously, but I rather take this option because :

1). We already have these threads and the entire community this thing grew out of as a POC for how an anonymous internet community CAN help one another despite not having to.

2). The loss of potentially valid critique is too great and makes the feature almost useless to anyone but the highest tier DADs who are gonna get e-stroked and their critique readily accepted.

The best case scenario I think should be is simply having options -- uploaders should be able to choose whether to have open comments, only named user comments, or avoid comments entirely. It should be up to the user's discretion. A step further would be upvoting good critique (>inb4 le reddit huhue), but I don't think the site is big enough to warrant this additional complexity. Up to Banana, really.

There's also the question of making multiple comments, which in my opinion, we don't need, since comments should only serve to deliver critique or positive reinforcement, not chitchat or internet arguments. We can use the threads or discord for that.

if you have to go into debt to get one, don't do it. if you've saved up and can afford it- do it. i did and it's fucking great. i tried third party stuff before-hand to save money, but ultimately had to return them. ipad + apple pencil is one of the only portable drawing tablet that doesn't have input lag.

i've heard that microsoft's Edge is also decent. but no matter what you choose, they're going to cost around the same amount

Just go to best buy and try out procreate on one. They're nearly lag-less and have a very low pressure threshold, so drawing on one is really nice. I have one but I don't use it for drawing simply because I prefer my workflow in windows, but you should definitely try one. Also, if you buy one get it from somewhere with a return policy like Apple, so if you get cold feet you can change your mind.

Hey I have a question for you guys. I recently saw this tweet https://twitter.com/rubberninja/status/1052130783568097280?lang=en
and it sort of resonated with me.
I think the way I can best describe how I imagine things is I'm in a dark room with a flashlight. I can only see a little bit of the image at a time, or if I pull back to see the bigger picture, the image's diffused and it's hard to make out details. This might also explain why I'm so much better at drawing pure realism (though I hate it) than stylized stuff.
I was wondering how many of you imagine things in a similar way, or if you also have this fractured imagination, if there's techniques or workarounds you use when drawing from essentially nothing.

I think the problem with these people is that you take visualizing with eyes closed as too literal. Of course you'll see darkness. What he described as 'collecting concept of an idea from memories..' is already visualization. People have varying degrees of how they can picture something in their mind but this is a skill that can also be improved.

I've had this thing since I was a kid where I would "watch TV" in my head. I have a very expansive imagination and can visualize pretty much anything. Had its drawbacks though. Imagine being addicted to bingewatching anime or shows on netflix, except you're the source and can make the story in whatever way you want at any time. I can keep this up for hours if needed and it gets enhanced with the usage of music. I wonder if it has to do with my ADHD.

I try to do it less now, and actually channel my creativity and imagination into something more useful. It did train my creative thinking however, which is certainly useful now and will be even more in the long run.
