stick to fundies but work on one piece you plan to complete over time. I mean like, say, 3-4 days up to a week (or even 2) where you constantly work at it for fun; fucking up and then fixing, fucking up and then fixing etc etc until you finally are done. I know I can't create something I'm happy with in one 'go' yet, so I just slowly crack away at a turd until I am happy with it and learned a few things.
& then rinse repeat.

Draw cool stuff badly.

Drawing shit you want will still train your fundamentals, because you need fundamentals to draw shit you want. So draw shit you want, and focus-fire the stuff giving you the most trouble with grinding now and then as needed.

You'll probably learn better what you need / don't need to work on by actually making the shit you want to draw anyway. Too many anons end up in some awful trap of grinding and exercises and never actually produce anything interesting.
