Man that’s daunting.

The only consistent thing I see among more experienced artists is that they'll lay in the center lines on the basic forms (as far as construction goes anyway, not going into stuff like >>3668669 which is involved when going straight into observational drawing).
So my guess is that anything beyond that should be strictly for learning and not some formula you should always apply.

Started out with anime at about 12, used the book how to make anime and game characters.
Then I checked out Bridgmans, but I just wasn’t interested in realism at the age 14 and bridgmans drawings were scary to 14 year old me. I didn’t really improve past that.
Picked up Loomis this spring, found hamtom, and now Reilly.

I’m really liking Reilly right now. Combining it with some of hamtoms stuff.

Any recommendations?

Loomis - beginners don’t understand him because he doesn’t communicate himself well; the information is there but in a raw form. The mannequin is pretty important to his approach as it abstracts a ton of information about the pose and position

Hampton - is straightforward and goes over pretty much everything. His book is an excellent reference for abstracted anatomy

Huston - a godsend for beginners, explains everything clearly in his Structure + Gesture system. Has the ability to get to the essence of something - for instance, instead of cryptically saying ‘use boxes’, he explains that it’s the boxy quality of corners that we can use to know the position of something. The only weakness of his is a lack of a mannequin (my guess is he draws from photos or life and doesn’t have to manipulate the pose a whole lot).

Bridgman - not comprehensive enough. I only use him on occasion as a reference for anatomical forms

I like how the Hitokaku guy constructs his humans.
Also Huston.

its good learning figure drawing, but i think using 3d tech helps tons. Get DAZ and just draw over the figure, best results always
