First of all thank you so much for buying, scanning and sharing the book. Please don't take this as a critique to you personally, I just couldn't shake the feeling that the scans were a bit pale, so I compared them with two versions of different Complete Works artbooks.

Yoshikawa is known for his crisp, colorful and nicely saturated illustrations, so it is a bit of a bummer.. again I don't want to seem ungrateful :< but if you're already scanning this super rare limited artbook, maybe you'd like to have it in it's best possible form.

Just thought I'd let you know in case you were wondering about it's look, some minor scanner tweaking might just be all it needs

i never make color adjustments once i scan them hence it looks pale in the outcome so anyone can color adjust them to their needs but so share some insights and settings on the adjustments :D

oh the one from the left is a raw scan by the guy who scanned it, and it's like 3500px, all details are clean af even when zoomed in.

this wasn't a request for the anon to adjust the scans or whatever, but more of a friendly tip to maybe tweak his scan settings for an optimal result. Although it depends on the scanner ofc

this one lacks information, like leaves and grass being limited in hue levels, the light shapes on the faces vanishing, and the feather in the center lacking the glow. It is all due to the original scan having cramped values, and giving everything a faint layer of desaturation from the start. At this point it's just nitpicking about the "perfect scan" that can or can not be achieved by normal scanners, we should move on.

I've shared quite a few books here, I really just meant to help.

yeah I don't speak Japanese or read it but I get a lot from the books because the visuals explain a lot desu. as visuals are more powerful than words that's why we use them for signs more than words and why we first learnt how to draw pictures on cave walls before we learnt how to write. so I can always more or less tell what it's trying to teach me just by looking at the images.

FP1 has all the basics & more. I haven't gotten to FP2 yet but it says it deals with shadows, volume and characters. I definitely recommend to try these books or at least FP1

Yo, just wanted to say almost the entire book is online. About 80% is online and about 20% isn't. I already said I couldn't scan it, but I could take pics a while back and nobody ever said anything. The only thing I haven't seen floating online is the art booklets on the inside that are like "mini" lessons, they're basically the shit you learn from Loomis, not too surprising considering Iain love Loomis. (I couldn't even decide which page to post considering how much is online. Also before you ask, I wear gloves whenever handling this book.)

FP1 is like How to Draw. FP2 is more concerned with stuff in How to Render like casting shadows along with putting characters in perspective (instead of Robertson's cars). It goes through how to place shadows on characters to be interesting, goes over the author's style of anatomy, and also covers composition. It's where you go after you've done How To Draw or FP1. I never did FP1, I just skimmed through it and knew everything already.

it's actually limited in hue than this anons >>3667108. See this adjusted example >>3667114 it lost a lot of color information due to the thin layer of gray noise/ desaturation of the raw example, thus you can't up the contrast properly without blowing up other areas of the image. You either need a very good scanner or try adjusting the scan settings for your machine so that the scanned piece is as close as possible to the original glossed illustration in value. You can like what you want but don't spread misinformation, there are other anons here who'd like to scan a book or two but don't know how to do it correctly, thus wasting their precious time and ending up with an mediocre result.

I appreciate all the scanbros to hell, but if we're talking strictly technical, the best scans were Amano-bros, remained crisp, and kept a great deal of it's original vibrancy.

I plan to clean it up for everybody's viewing pleasure. It's about 300 pages long though, so I don't want scanlines like pic related to remain in my samples. Anybody know some clever techniques to get rid of these artifacts?

I think except some tutorial pics, an eitire book has never been translated. Because fan translators who translate manga are not interested in drawing. So our plan B is the machine translation using OCR or google camera and share the pics. This way you can understand what they say enough. The plan C is learning Japanese but it will take longer than you learn art.

I have two of those. They are alright. I wouldn't put them above the likes of imagineFX as they cover a lot of the same material but Graphite obviously doesn't cover a lot of color works. They are good if you like to know a bit more about the artists and the drawing equipment they use.

For Masamune Shirow's H-stuff you can go to e-hentai.org, and what's there is the best quality you can get. For Non-H manga, I think I saw some Ghost in the shell and Appleseed digital version somewhere. Since they're digital version, they're high quality. Try mycomicposts.net or similar sites.

I know when someone share something on the Internet, they want to be expose to people of same interest. And by refer to the source, we give them credit. But sometime we accidently bring bad luck to them...

I once happened upon an archive.org account KBGCuba, he shared a huge amount of high quality artbook and guide book. Got taken down. He then made his own site, got taken down again. Returned to archive with another account, thing happened again...
