How do you feel when you find someone much younger and more skilled than you?

I turned 18 a few weeks ago so only a minor annoyance. Unless it someone that's like 11 or 12 and they're one if those "child prodigies" whobhave been drawing since they could hold a pencil and studies fundamentals before they really knew what fundamentals were. I think that shit gets everyone angry, though.

Irrationally angry, but in a way that motivates me to get better.

i dont believe in talent so i see it as a sign that im a failure who has been slacking and shouldve worked harder. its a trigger that spirals me into depression and self loathing

Good for them I guess. They probably don't spend time on 4chan.

I don't care. They probably spent much more time practicing than me anyways.

You learn to not care about it, also a lot of people lie about their age on the internet.

seems like that only really matters when you're a teen or something. Once people get into their 20s and older it kind of doesn't matter. At least in my experience.

There will always be people better than you. People that work harder. People that started younger. People whose brains just work differently.

Everyone is on their own journey. As long as you're better than younger you you're doing ok.

Weird, it was the complete opposite for me, I didn't give a fuck in my teens, but now that I am 25 I care a lot more.

I ignore them, I don't really care about kid's art and is better to stay away from them most young artist are also kinda loopy and attract drama

>> No.3665150

I'm 25 and older than most people using social media. It does kind of sting but you have to realize these people put in more work than you and started earlier etc. Don't dwell too much on it and use it as a drive to make up for lost time.

They might be better than me, but they are not me. Their skill level is useless if they can't create what's I want.

guess it depends on what you're doing too. Like if you're trying to get into competitive technical drafting work or you feel like you're in a crowded niche I can see how jealousy feels could get worse when you're actually trying to make a living doing it.

My focus even when I was in grade school was always mostly about the idea of doing something different and having a "novel aesthetic" and stuff. And then when I did get into making acrylic meme paintings at 27-28, it was more about doing what I wanted (that happened to be something that no one else was doing) so I've always kind of been immune to giving a shit.

I did get somewhat depressed when I discovered there was an Always Sunny meme painter on reddit right when I was starting work on a Dennis >implications painting. That dude paints with oils and is A: actually good at making normal paintings and B: actually finishes paintings, so that made me feel like a bozo for a little while. But ultimately it just motivated me to keep making stuff and focus more on subjects I was more interested in working on and stuff. My whole project has always been more focused on the whole gestalt and the final result versus how it relatively stands up against contemporaries. I'm racing Van Gogh not some dang redditors.

Plus my whole justification for leaving shit unfinished and doing them wrong was that I'd eventually make a comedy video series where I shill all the paintings by desperately justifying and explaining why they're wrong and adding context and building ideas around them, so that their "value" is mostly determined by the messaging behind them.

Like Van Gogh was "worse" than his contemporaries. It wasn't really until he died and people learned about him and his personality and his letters and stuff that his work had "value." His work is seen as part of a bigger story. Doesn't matter that there were "better" artists alive at the time.

I guess it depends. If it's fb then definitely the older folks but on Twitter and insta the average age feels more around 18-20 especially looking at which tweets get the most traffic.

From now on, we are enemies - You and I. Because You choose for Your instrument a boastful, lustful, smutty, infantile boy and give me for reward only the ability to recognize the incarnation. Because You are unjust, unfair, unkind, I will block You, I swear it. I will hinder and harm Your creature as far as I am able. I will ruin Your incarnation.

I guess I feel a little ashamed, but everyone improves at their own pace. I think it’s really great and inspiring to see people so talented and skilled at such young ages, and I look forward to their futures as artists. For instance, the artist who made this is only 15 and draws really good digital art too.
