How much progress in a year am I likely to see if I just draw random stuff every day without following any guides or grinding the fundamentals?

none
that's pretty much what all those cringe deviantart artists do
just doodle all day with no real purpose

The more you know the fundamentals the faster and easier it is to draw. Learning the fundamentals it better in the long run but drawing random shit usually you'll learn some stuff accidentally and doing abit of both is best because you'll learn how to apply those fundementals.

Search for sonic/pokemon/mlp fanart on deviantart to find out.

I think it's key to have a good balance, I got memed by ic to ONLY study fundamentals and never things i like so i hated drawing for at least two years.

Draw shitty oc, study the most terrible aspect that meets your eye and try again etc.

More progress than you would have ever made without drawing.

Honestly at the end of the day, if your drawing each day for at least couple hours it doesn't matter if it's fundamentals or random shit. Your still on the right path.

You could be lazy like me and drawing like couple times a month which won't amount to anything.

I dropped out of art school and stopped drawing for 3 years for a similar reason. I can’t blame ic, but the grind took the fun out of drawing.

That and I could have benefitted from some patience.
