Actually I think that 2017 looks much better in this case. The form on the left feels more solid and proportional. On the right the head is way too big, and the short torso/long thin leg feminine body plan feels ridiculous with such a masculine, big face.

If anything it makes me question if the artist just lucked into making a cute drawing on the left, and 2018 is actually representative of their artistic ability.

For my first two years of drawing I was making a progress image every few months, because I was really pleased with how fast and noticeably I was improving. I wasn't great, but I was obviously getting better.

I haven't made one in a year, because I haven't been improving. You could take something from January and something from October and if I didn't label them nobody would be able to tell.

1. Skim book for useful tricks (duplication and division the most important imo).
2. Study from reference using tricks you read about.
3. Attempt original drawings without using ref.
Repeat daily. You'll notice gains in less than a month if you're consistent.

Probably. I started school in 2015 and after that I only drew in sporadic bursts every few months. Part of me wishes I would have sat down and worked harder at it on a consistent schedule, but the other part of me knows that drawing lewds isn't gonna be my career and I don't regret the time I spent doing other things.

Are you stuck in your comfort zone? Maybe try playing around with different media, try ink, watercolor, digital, anything you haven't tried yet. Changing subjects might help as well. Try doing scenery if you've been doing mostly portraits or vice versa. Challenging yourself is key.

You should be able to get decent after 4 years. Capable of copying a photo with photo-realistic results and some pretty good results on still lives. Creative works will be alright but definitely amateur.

8 years is when you should be at a pro level. Easily copy photos, solid still lives and figure drawings, and your creative pieces should be recognizable to your style.

I did some apprenticeship to help with getting my workflow right, having a good workflow helps you with not frontloading yourself with all the problems. Solve 1 thing at a time, and take your time. If you spend your last 1 hour before deadline painting something, it's going to look like it's done in 1 hour. Industry standard for an illustration take 1-3 weeks depends on the complexity. If you paint everyday you should spend at least 4-6 hours on a detailed study, and up to 30 hours ish for a nice illustration.

One thing for sure tho I can guarantee you is that the sticky for this board is very helpful if you wanna self study, but it takes incredible amount of effort to do so, so if you can muster some cash and time, applying yourself under a good mentor artist is THE way to go. I dont think i know jackshit until I reached out and learn from somebody else who know their shit. It's alot easier than trying to navigate through all these resources online. I can however say if you're beginner, reading Loomis isn't a meme, helps me out alot too.

Other than all of those, build a habit of drawing everyday, I feel like shit because I do a study maybe once a month inbetween all other art projects, so i'm pretty sure my growth could be alot faster had I actually spend time and not fuck around.

I hate to say it, but even though your technical skills have improved, you've lost any semblance of style. It just looks like a generic pixiv artist, whereas the one on the left, while having some pretty fucked up anatomy and perspective, has a cool style. I guess it's a weird case of where it is technically much better on the right, but because it looks so generic it kind of feels like something was lost into the great sea of generic looking anime girls. There's nothing unique about the style on the left.
If anything it's less unique, as you can find an endless abundant supply of similar art in the dark corners of DeviantArt or even here. On the other hand, you'd be hard-pressed to meet so-called "generic pixiv artist" of that quality in places outside of the top charts of pixiv.

Didn't start drawing seriously until 2016. Approaching the 2 year mark...damn. I wish I did things differently. Trashed every early drawing I had in a binder because I just drew on printer paper. Once I became a shitty digifag, I started to save images seriously but cleaned out all my blogs twice. That removed somewhere around 100 images of my progression. Onky recently have I begun saving stuff in sketch books as I've become a traditionalfag once again. I fished for some of my art in Google images and found some of the worst and most memorable pieces. Will make a collage of it when I get home. All the other shit is still lost to time I guess. I also don't draw nearly enough and did so far much more when I was starting out but slowly got less productive. I don't upload a pic of every drawing now but I make little doodles and figure drawings constantly before I get home.
