Well, it's hard to know.
What do you wanna draw?
Or more like, what art do you like, what made you think "I wish I could do that"?

Do you use digital? Traditional?
Is it paintings? Drawings? Anime?

Maybe google images, or look up art blogs on Instagram or photography blogs on Tumblr, if you want anime or cartoon there's Danbooru, Deviantart, etc.

This. For me, it was a certain realistic manga. And when trying to emulate it I found out just doing the characters wasn't enough. Eventually, to nail the clothes, I started "studying" fabrics like jeans and leather. That's where I'm at right now actually, just look at real-life clothes from Google Images and start drawing them with as much detail as possible and understand where the thread lines are and how are the zippers positionaed and how it looks in general, basically you think you know clothes but you haven't fully submerged yourself in them. Also look for tutorials on how clothes work, at least for this example.
Once you draw some pages full of clothing you'll be able to accurately say you studied it and you'll be able to do some believable pants.
Studying animals, well you'd need to investigate its anatomy and fur or whatever other texture it may have and again draw a fuckton of them.

The most basic things like clothing, hair, landscapes and architecture have hundreds of tutorials to truly get the hang of them already. If you're trying to draw something too "out there" it may not have a tutorial, but if you're asking how to do a study you probably shouldn't be trying to draw cosmic horrors just yet.

try to focus on one thing that you don't understand/gives you trouble and then deconstruct how it works. that thing could be anything from just anatomy & value in general or something very specific like a texture or a style you like. if you're ever at a loss for what to study, just go draw outside and challenge yourself to replicate what you see.

It’s all about separating order from chaos and then, like Adam in Eden, giving it a name. When you look at a picture, look at it through lens of a visual language - break it down into elements. Line, texture, value, color, form, shape, gesture, rhythm, proportion, and so on. In this way you move from looking at the forest to the trees, from looking at the overall picture to its constituent parts. Now, once you narrow down your attention to single element or part you can better understand it by contasting it to something of the opposite nature. Place a light value near a dark value, a warm color next to a cool one, an active shape next to a passive shape, a thick line next to a thin line. In this way you divide and conquer into subcategories. When studying an artist don’t simply think “I like this piece!”, but instead “these are rounded shapes” and “this is a muted color palette”. After recognizing something you can now absorb that information by copying it, not mindlessly, but with concentration and thought.
