IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Previous Thread >>3619680

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:
1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead
2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller
3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

TRY TO GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do."

The lines in barn door are tripping my brain.

The (right) door is drawn to open to inside of the barn. So the door should be receding from us. But the three horizontal lines (boards?) are drawn to come towards us, thus looking like the door is opened to outside of the barn.

The three horizontal boards on the right hand side door should be drawn higher, so that they are on level with the left side doors boards on the right most side.

The one point perspective and the lines receding to vanishing point are done well, but try to focus also on your horizontals and verticals.

Also if you want to do landscapes, try to focus on values. Strong values and most texture on the foreground, and most light and soft stuff on the background / horizon.

Work towards stronger values by doing thumbnails (like 3x2 inches / 7x4cm) quick sketches that just show horizon, some light background and darker stronger foreground.

I have an idea on how to get better at anatomy.
If I draw a picture (pic related) without reference, while trying to represent muscles and structure etc as best as I can, that drawing will represent my unconscious understanding of anatomy. in this pic there are (so many) flaws. the right leg is too short, and I really really really have no fucking clue about the ab muscles, obliques, or pecks. If i post an unreff'd picture, someone can tell me all the specifics that are just completely fucking wrong, and then I can find a reference to target that specific concept and learn it.

if this is a terrible idea, someone can also tell me and then I won't do this

Clueless ultranoob here. I have been given an ipad and that stylus thing as a gift. Can anyone suggest software? Paid, is ok, as I have also been given itunes cards from people who think I listen to music or watch tv, but I'd like to avoid a subscription.

I am so clueless, that I don't even have a solid idea of what objectives exist in kinds of art/formats, much less any goals in mind. For a 100 bucks I got his tablet (idk much about drawing tablets I just know that it's a wacom and supposedly wacoms are good). With all this I though I might at least try to make something good out of it, if I can't I'll just resell it no biggie. I'm just wondering if the books are good or if I should just follow some online guide or something.

Yea, you need to learn anatomy. Looking a medical / muscle / skeleton pics help. You have to understand how muscles wrap around bone and other muscles, how bones are connected, and how fat fold around the body. Obviously you don't need to know the details but at least an idea of what shapes they make.
- thumbnail looks great, good values
- everything under the waist looks bad especially the legs
- knees?
- is that back fat or the ass?

I really like your shading and coloring, I'm sure if you spent more time on it the coloring would be better. Thank you.

I think I'll mostly repeat what's said here most of the time, but whatever.

Read books (Loomis, of course, but I've also found Hampton very helpful), check out some video courses (Han, Hampton).

Grind, but do it smartly. Don't spend too much time on minor details, devote more time to studying perspective and figuring out what shapes objects are made of and how to draw these objects correctly.

When drawing from reference, don't copy the image as-is. Try to find some underlying shapes first, then figure out proportions and only then start drawing things as you see them.

As you draw, don't do it mindlessly. Try to remember the shapes, try to understand how light works. Don't think of your drawing in 2d, always keep 3d picture in mind. That's one reason why drawing from real reference is useful - it's easier to visualize 3d picture (how far away things are from each other, at what angles they're positioned and so on).

I didn't include the knees because I don't know how to draw them without straight copying the ref or just making the leg look flat, and i've been trying to build figures with 3d volumes.
I've heard you can do the knee as a cubical shape but not quite sure how to represent it from a front facing angle. I like to do different exercises so I'm more interested. But sometimes I can draw some exercise for hours if it's interesting enough.

The amount of hours depends on how much free time I have. If you have a lot of free time, the more you grind, the better. But don't forget to rest and draw for fun.

There's your problem then. You're not using references when you should be. You're attempting to draw something when you don't really understand its form.

Even if you're trying to do a cartoon, the basis of any stylistic attempt is a good knowledge of anatomy + form. This is why even children's animation students spend years studying fundamentals. Have you ever done a study before?

Day three of drawing a portrait every day.
Today I discovered that shading is very hard, messy hair is hard to draw, some people have ovular heads and that even once you get proportions and proper placement of features they're still hard to draw.
I'll get there, anons. I'll post my next progress report when I become further discouraged.

I started two months ago, I'm probably bitting more than I can swallow. I'm trying to make an alternate version of a manga, turning the secondary characters into possible love interests. At the moment I am too dependent on the original source, but I am not tracing so I hope to improve in the future. The reading from left to right feels strange, probably going to start again in manga format with more flexible panels.

I'm currently studying architecture, so I'm covered on the perspective side (although I never draw by hand and only work in 3D), but totally oblivious of the human form. I skipped the classics and went straight to anime books.

I’m currently using:
(Nakamura Seiich) It's Fun Drawing People! Face & Head
Japanese Hair Tutorial Book [头发的画法+头发基本画法动态画法魅力表现+日漫教程]
Principal Character Poses - Basics of Contrapposto (Chinese)

I don’t have a blog yet, first I need to be able to draw a page a day with decent quality.

as long as you understand what went wrong, what went right, and how to improve you will make it given enough time and practice. it's clear you're putting thought into your study, which is why it's good.
again, believe in me who believes in you.

gesture drawing isnt just to be drawn over, it's a very important exercise in capturing the essence of an object or figure, that specific example isnt very good imo, hampton has a good method. you want to, in a s few lines as possible, convey the pose, gesture, and perspective of the forms, while trying to get proportions correct. these are usually quick too.
