honestly i used to want so bad to be able to but now that im more experienced (not to say im really good or anything, just much better than before) i realize i dont want to draw in anime style. in fact, im so used to trying to replicate it that i have so much trouble in forging my own style or doing something in a style that doesnt immediately remind you of "that anime style." please, anons. try to find your own style, anime style is incredibly overdone and has almost no uniqueness anymore. if you want your art to stand out much easier, dont do generic anime

Where does any of this show in their art though? All anime is is somewhat simplified figures with certain sets of stylized facial features. Anime art rarely ever shows some technical finesse that just leaves you scratching your head as to how they do it, let alone something that has no equal in western art.

The artists are respectively Dave Sim of Cerebus fame. David Mazzuchelli who had drawn many good books before doing his own thing. And then there's Kelley Jones whose main schtick is drawing very much in an exaggerated and intense style that emphasizes mood and atmosphere and a certain sense of design. None of them are drawing in a realistic manner and yet they're known, loved, and successful as far as western artists go.

Dave Sim drew a 300 issue series named Cerevus the Aadvark, all self-published via his company and on a consistent time-table, known for its quality of art and writing as it developed.

David Mazzuchelli is a very well-known and well-loved artist whose works appeared in very mainstream books and iconic works, Daredevil: Born Again and Batman: Year One come to mind in his realistic phase, he's also a well-known cartoonist whose work and skill make itself shown in Asterios Polyp.

Kelley Jones is a man who comes from Bernie Wrightson's tradition but moves off in another direction from his master/mentor by just doing what he wants. Doing what he wants means muscles upon muscles, drawing from his imagination and having fun with every line, designing characters to meet his ends which border on the macabre but are punctuated with a kind of of gorey and dark humor. He's drawn many a Batman and Swamp Thing comic, and he was chosen by Bernie Wrightson to finish his Frankenstein comic book with IDW.

Then there is Bill Waterson, Will Eisner, Matteo Scalera, Mike Mignola, Frank Miller, Eric Powell. The list goes on and on and on.

There were phases where I was super into lolita stuff. Phases where I disliked specific fetishes only to end up liking them years later. Refusing to touch a western made comic or animation just because its fanbase was loud and obnoxious and then get into it as I got older and wonder why I didn't give x material a read/watch.

If you thoroughly enjoy anime, you'll eventually come to find that you enjoy all kinds of style of anime and then perhaps be more open to all kinds of stylization. And if you actually like art, just admiring Doritos chip girls with sparkly hair can get pretty boring.
