What do you learn from the fact that these paintings are sold for 10s of thousands of dollars.

Making a living as an artist is maybe 20% about your technical skill and 80% about marketing yourself properly, and producing work that stylistically stands out.

This. All successful artists have a unique style / look, and they embraced the entrepreneurial nature of being an independent artists.

Instead, /ic/ is populated with the exact opposite - people who have blogs full of half-assed and unfinished work / "studies", and have never bothered to lift a finger in regards to hunting down real world opportunities for themselves, and instead focus on tumblr-tier, fast food style personal commissions on Tumblr or porn Patreons.

the whole gallery circuit is a fraud: people that make those paintings are just replaceable trained monkeys

the real artists here are the curators which convince rich people to buy that shit for x100000 times its real value. professional scam artists.

chances are, a rich artist don't even paint

andy warhol had 4 employees for doing all his shit. he didn't even supervised them or cared for their artwork, because he was 100% focused on the bussiness side. selling your image is a full time job

you retards are thinking on a statistically no significant percentage of art jobs. 99.99% real artists just have normal jobs with normal companies, with a list of requirements and deadlines, like normal people

no need to become a salesman/quack/showman

Nice story but it has nothing to do with this thread. The artist posted doesnt sell in galleries. She apparently hates them for rejecting her many times.

marketing is a hell of a drug and has no reflective aspect on the quality of work or content therein. this is common knowledge to people outside high school.

What do you mean by talent does exist people. Is that people who claim talent exists and they don't have it so they won't make it? Or talent exists and they have it so they don't have to try.

I mean talent DOESN'T exist. People with talent know it exist because early in life people always told them they were good, the won prodigy accolades and they hear they are talented ALL the time.

why does it matter if talent exists or not? it shouldn't change a single thing about your life. there's talent in just about everything. being able to exist is incredible. making artwork that other people can enjoy is incredible. doing nothing because you weren't chosen by mandate of heaven to be guided through life totally unconscious of human struggle means you are at best part of the support system for those who choose to have lives.

basically, life is good. there's even room for the idiots.

This

It's not even a scamming because they're selling you social status, which they created out of thin air

Of course, all this business is completely /ic/ unrelated
