Well, Craig Mullins went to art school - twice in fact. Once for industrial design and then for illustration.

Maybe in yurop or something but even with financial aid you'll be paying around 35k a year at places such as RISD, SCAD, SAIC, Pratt, etc.
Starting to think that art school grads struggle not because they're artists but because they're drowning in debt

Is this true? Just don’t get into debt and you’ll be fine?

its a waste of money and time. It's not just a useless diploma for basically any other type of work, it maybe even works against you in a lot of people's eyes. They'll judge your life choices and stuff. A lot of people perceive art school as the place where weirdos get turned into weirdo assholes.

And when it gets right down to it, you're not really getting that much from the education that is of value to anyone else, or that you couldn't have gotten on your own for free. Like with basically all schooling now, the most important thing is networking. You're spending a lot of money to live and work with the Future Achievers of Yestermorrow, the relationships you make with them are going to be way more important than 90% of the theory and history shit you need to learn that nobody cares about.

It'd honestly be a better investment to take the money and rent out studio space and spend 4 years producing shit from ignorance and learning on the way than going to debtors prison.

people who went to art school are cunts about it but it's actually pretty great, it's just a sort of ego stroking exercise.they think because you can still pass when you phone it in that whatever artistic development they made while at art school had nothing to do with art school. and for a few other reasons like that.

if you've never been to art school don't think it's pointless, and repeat it, you're not a member of the artist club because you say the coolguy stuff.

that being said it's probably not be worth the money if you're in one of those countries (cough america) where schooling is impossibly expensive.

What kind of art schools let just anybody in? I always lived under the impression that it's hard to get there. My friend who I find really talented is trying to get into one for years.

A good amount of em have acceptance rates >40%; many over 60%. Maybe my standards are a bit high but that's not a super competitive student body
