I know what the fundamentals are. Anyone can find out what they are without even picking up a pencil.

That doesn't mean you understand them, and it doesn't explain how you're supposed to really comprehend them. When I hear people say "you need to get a grasp on the fundamentals" I never know what they want me to do. People say it as if its so easy that I feel like I've missed something obvious.

you don't just 'know them'. you integrate them together using your medium of choice. and it's a progression of understanding, not just a thing you have or don't have.

but usually when someone is mentioning fundamentals online it means they don't like your work so they go after your technical merits.
