What do you mean? People will be nosey and look at you no matter how inconspicuously you draw.

I assume you want to keep it light, so here's the absolute bare minimum for sketching on paper.

-Sketchbook size is up to you, I like to keep it closer to hand size. Make sure it can lay flat when you open it.
-If you only want to carry one pencil, 4B gets a good range on light to dark. Don't bother with those stupid pencil tins or sketching with an HB, you learn to sketch softer and with less underdrawing.
-Don't bother with an eraser, that's more shit to keep track of while drawing and creates a mess. You can just clean up the sketch at home if you're that compulsive
-Get a small sharpener like a KUM and keep it in a ziplock bag for the shavings. You could get one with the container, but they usually don't hold enough shavings and are overpriced.
-If you want to use pen, use a cheap felt tip in two sizes: thin for details and slightly wider to add line variation. For micron, 01 and 05 are good. If you want solid spots of black, just mark them and fill the spots at home.
-I think drawing with ballpoint is stupid, but other people love it. It doesn't help you develop your drawing skills, so it's usually something people who already know how to draw use. It's also convenient, doesn't smear, easy to replace, and can give...some range of shading. I'll leave it up to you if you want to use one.

you just do it. most people will not give a shit. i do it alot , people will wanna see it though so dont draw weird stuff if you dont wanna answer about it.
i always draw lots of nudes and belive it or not most people will not be bothered by it normies will be impressed if the anatomy even looks half way decent. i would just stay away from pornography though.

You're too obsessed about what others think. Remember everyone else has their own problems to worry about.

Just sit down in a public place with people around. Typically if eyes meet twice I normally will finish the drawing on that I can remember or later if they're still around.

I've had more people tell me my drawings were nice (They're shit); If someone takes issue, just politely stop.

I have more memories of people jokingly posing once they noticed than people getting upset,
Just smile, wave and don't be a creep about it.

I have a Note 8. It's fucking horrible for drawing still and you look like some boomer with a PDA on Lotus Notues when you pull the stylus out.

I don't understand how anyone can paint digitally without keyboard/tablet shortcuts for tools. It's such a waste of time I'm going to start bringing around with me a compact moleskin type notebook because I'd rather draw with a real tool than the stylus with awful pressure tracking.

Annon I draw with a ball point pen most of the time... I usually make a pencil sketch before using pen... Does that make it better or have I squandered hours of time and gimped my improvement?

>> No.3543941

>>3543467

If you're working with ball point as the final art, sketching with pencil isn't that big of a deal. The ink isn't archival though, so don't expect to hang it up in sunlight.

If you're just working in your sketchbook, it's a waste of time to do a pencil undersketch. The ballpoint pen should be enough to carry you through from sketch to final ink, it can handle lighter lines as well as moderately darker ones.

I use small sketchbooks with a cloth cover and sewn spine that fit into my front pocket. The binding makes it really flexible and you don't notice it when walking. I hate carrying shit that bulks up my pockets so that's important to me. I wouldn't use it the same way I use a moleskine so no careful rendering or anything, but it's perfect for quick sketches on the go when you have some time to kill. literally any time I sit down or wait for some reason I just whip it out. The sketchbook that is, you dirty fucker.

How do you draw something like this when people are moving.
I can barely draw their LOA right.

>> No.3544927

>>3544878
What do you mean with LOA?

/beg/inner here, I have been trying to draw people outside too for a couple of days and it's not easy.
So yesterday I sat at the station, tried to focus on faces thinking it would make it a bit easier if I focus on smaller parts of people first. Quickly you learn that you need to focus on very specific characteristics in someone's face and try to apply your anatomical knowledge to tie everything together.
It takes a lot of practice, if you keep trying you will learn what characteristics to pay attention to and what you can pull out of your anatomy knowledge. You have to train your memory too.
Since I'm at the station every day and have to wait at least 20 minutes I will try to make this a habit.
I'm also feeling less and less insecure every time I try it so that's a good thing.

Keep trying and don't give up, it also helps to observe your drawings a day later and see what went right or wrong, it's easier to be more objective after letting it rest for a bit.

It's probably mostly in your head, but your discomfort and insecurity will be externalized which other people will pick up. So if it makes it any more comfortable, limit yourself to just one plain pencil/pen, and a tiny plain sketchbook. Basically keep your arsenals as plain and boring-looking as possible. Then just relax yourself, doodle away and don't focus on making a masterpiece.

I try to draw in public every day but I can't help but feel uncomfortable. Maybe I'm too self-conscious about it.
Also, do people think it's weird if your sketchbook is filled for a great part with nude and barely-clothed women? Or does that depend on how confident you act?

Yeah I figured at least this much.
Though, ever since I wanted to be more open about my drawing I started drawing a bit more varied things so it wouldn't be all naked women and floating torsos if I were to ever show my sketchbook.
But yeah, I guess it's also about attitude, that's something I really need to work on.

1. draw more until it becomes habit, or at least pretend it is.

2. practice falling into your own world, zoning out. its good to be hyperaware in subways so you can catch nogs in action or dip out when trevor unsheathes his kimber auto pistol with extended mag. but stifling to someone who needs their focus.

3. stop being autistic and become ok with strangers approaching you, people drawing is not common these days so you will pique interests.

4. try to stay focused on how you usually make art. youre just wasting time if youre so distracted you rush your strokes

i have a distinct image of the public artist that i always strive to replicate. in school one of our studios had an old school professor that insisted we sketched everyday, and bring him 200 sketches every meeting. the students were so swamped and just done with arrogant prick professors. but i remember seeing a classmate, her hair in a messed up bun, giant glasses weve never seen before on her face, all tired looking, sit down, sigh, flip violently to an empty page in her sketchbook, and resumed sketching. didnt even offer a hello, just grunted at me. be like her.

Ipad Pro + Apple Pencil with Procreate is godly for sketching on the go. It replaces the keyboard shortcuts with intuitive gesture controls. It isn't as efficient as keyboard obviously but that's the price to pay for the mobility. Worth it imo.

I won't say people aren't stupid or the questions start to get a little repetitive, but it does take all kinds, especially on 4chan. Don't pretend you're above it all, you're shitposting on 4chan and that's worth at least 10 retard points since you could be doing something more productive. And if the exact question was answered a month ago but the thread is gone, it's mostly the fault of idiots that make multiple venting on the same famous artist or shilling threads. And if it's a question that have been asked MULTIPLE times, it should honestly be added to the sticky/wiki at some point instead of being bumped off the board to repeat the cycle of newfags asking the same question again. Either way, it still opens up art related discussions that doesn't include bitching and some people can, you know, actually have differing opinions on art supplies.

inb4 Google because fuck you, its fun to talk to other anon about art
